ReineWisell might have been a big Formula 1 star had his career not have happened at the same time as that of his fellow Swede Ronnie Peterson.
Wisell was three years older than Peterson but their careers developed at the same time and by the end of the 1960s both were racing Formula 3 internationally.
It was enough to impress the team however and Wisell was re-signed for the 1971 season but Fittipaldi emerged as the stronger driver and at the end of the season Wisell moved to the Marlboro-supported BRM team.
ReineWisell was born in 1941 in the small industrial town of Motala near lake Vättern in central Sweden.
Reine had to split his efforts between the 72 and the Lotus 56B turbine car, which he raced at Oulton Park and Silverstone.
Reine's last F1 race was the 1974 Swedish GP, in a Västkuststugan (makers of cottages in a distinctive Swedish style) sponsored March 741 subbing for Hans-Joachim Stuck who had commitments elsewhere.
Wisell had been brought into the team when Rindt’s death at Monza promoted Fittipaldi to lead driver.
The end of 1972 saw Wisell back at Lotus for the last two races in place of Dave Walker, who had apparently shown himself to be only lukewarm on a good day.
By now Wisell’s star was in deep decline and he managed only two outings in 1973 and one in 1974 as shown in the photo.

Reine gained valuable experience racing abroad that year and scored 11 wins in total, while his younger rival concentrated on racing at home and took the Swedish crown.
Wisell moved to BRM who were running a multi-car squad which spread the available resources too thinly.
Nothing worthwhile was achieved and Reine even made a brief return to the Lotus fold in place of the luckless Walker for the Canadian GP.

There were five Lotuses, with Team LIRA arriving with 69s for ReineWisell and new boy François Migault, Gerry Birrell with his example, Tetsu Ikuzawa in his 69 and Adam Potocki in a Hart-powered version.
Wisell was next, with Ikuzawa electing to stick with his morning time of 2m 12.8s.
Mazet had a coming together with Wisell at Nouveau Monde, forcing him into the pits with a broken oil radiator; he resumed three laps down, but Wisell was not so lucky, retiring with a broken shock absorber.
For the start, Andretti and Regazzoni were side-by-side on the front row, but all three Ferraris were given a good run for their money by ReineWisell in Jo Bonnier's Lola-Cosworth T280.
Unfortunately for Wisell, Regazzoni picked up some wreckage from a crashed Chevrolet Corvette-the Swiss had a mind-boggling spin as a rear tyre blew, and the PB's rear body section flew off, bouncing straight into the screen of Wisell's car.
Mercifully, Reine kept control, but the front of the Lola was pretty badly frayed and both cars had to limp into the pits for attention.
A well known car which has competed in many famous races including the 1970 Brands Hatch 1000 Km where it finished 7th from a starting grid of 47 cars in the hands of Jo Bonnier and ReineWisell.
In the Can-Am race at Watkins Glen in 1970 it finished 11th, again driven by Jo Bonnier.
Chassis number SL76/143, originally owned by Jo Bonnier, was also driven by Ronnie Peterson and Herbert Muller in other events.
Ronnie does a couple of races and in the last F3 race (69) at Monthlery, France Ronnie rolls and the car is on fire.
Ronnie is burned on his arms and wrists, but is ok. His old friend ReineWisell helps him out of the inferno.

A dash of tire smoke and an armful of opposite lock characterized the brilliant career of this reticent Swedish driver who emerged as one of the most dynamic F1 talents of the 1970s.
After learning his craft in the European karting arena, Ronnie stormed into F3 and made his name by winning a sensational battle for victory in the prestigious 1969 Monaco Grand Prix supporting race, beating his compatriot ReineWisell after a wheel-to-wheel battle.
In 1970 he graduated into F1 with the fledgeling March team and remained there for three seasons.
