  Special K - Reiner Knizia
Not only did he publish six games (then as now, Knizia has never had problems finding publishers for his many creative efforts), but the designs were of a decidedly higher quality that firmly established him as a new force to be reckoned with.
Knizia's many fans were exultant and his critics were forced to reevaluate his work.
But for years, Reiner Knizia has been making a habit of surprising people with his new-found abilities; it would be imprudent to assume that he won't continue to grow even more.

Reiner Knizia: The question as you put it is difficult to answer because it actually doesn't arrive in this way for me. The choices you have in a game, and that means the victory conditions, essentially motivate what the different choices are from the mental starting point for the game.
Reiner Knizia: I've learned over the years that it's a good idea to have a clear aim where the game should go or should be, or what you want to create, but then to stay flexible enough if the game turns out to be something different.
Reiner Knizia: It's not that it's cluttering or distracting, but I always say that if the mind knows one solution then it's very difficult to find another solution; because whenever I think of how to do something, the one solution that is there springs to mind.

The Labyrinth - Board Games - Reiner Knizia
While Knizia still hasn't taken home a Spiel des Jahres award, he has seen many of his games on the recommended list; his performance with other awards such as the International Gamer Awards has been more in line with his reputation.
Knizia designed a masterpiece - a cooperative game that broke much new ground while still providing an experience that could be enjoyed by the mass market audience the game has reached.
Many of the games are similar to other Knizia games released individually (Ohio and Medici both bear a striking resemblance to games from the collection, for example), but I still find the number and variety of games make the collection a worthwhile choice.

Gone Gaming: Three Designers: Knizia, Kramer & Teuber
Reiner Knizia is, in my mind, the father of the modern Eurogames movement.
The biggest problem with Knizia's designs is that he produces a wide variety of games, from ultra-ultra-light to medium-heavy, and they're for a wide variety of audiences.
This year Knizia put out at least three games that I think will be enjoyed by gamers for years to come, two medium-light designs, Tower of Babel and Palazzo, and one medium design, Beowulf: The Legend, and they were mostly met with undeserved scorn and derision.

Reiner Knizia's Kingdoms is one of Knizia's many tile-laying games.
Most board games tend to be strategic, but Reiner Knizia in particular instead tends to offer up tactical games masquerading as strategy.
With Knizia's heavy emphasis on abstract strategy, it's not surprising that these abstract games would come to mind.

PC VIDEO GAME REVIEWS... Reiner Knizia's Samurai __________|
Reiner Knizia's Samurai is a game designed, developed and published by Klear Games.
If a player has taken two of the three, then he or she is declared the winner, else Samurai looks at other aspects of your gaming style (like your total number of pledges or overall balance) to decide the winner.
Reiner Knizia's Samurai uses a simple drag and drop method that allows you to focus more on what your next move will be rather than how exactly to implement the particular move.

RPGnet: Review of Reiner Knizia's Samurai
Reiner Knizia's Samurai seems to be the real name of this game, not just Samurai, and so I've used it as the title of the review, to help differentiate it from all the other Samurai games out there.
Samurai is one of Knizia's "tile laying trilogy".
These games were all developed between 1997 and 1998 and each feature tile-laying as a prime component, along with some innovative methods for scoring.

Reiner Knizia's Samurai - Reviews - Stratos Group
Reiner Knizia's Samurai falls somewhere in the middle, featuring both a simple rule set and complicated strategic depth.
Because of this, it lends itself well to an online implementation, and the version put together by the folks at Klear is just about everything you could hope for in a boardgame adaptation.
Part of the credit needs to go to Reiner Knizia, whose design is the basis for this excellent electronic implementation.

All that said, Knizia is not my favorite game author. Like all of the authors who I'm covering, he's among my favorites - but compared to many in the hobby I feel like a detractor.
Ferkelei is perhaps the strangest game of Knizia's that I've played, being nominally about pigs but as abstract as any of his games. It also has some of the weakest mechanics I've seen in a Knizia game, with few real choices to be made. Flinke Pinke (Funagain, $9) (a.k.a.
Players have unlimited choice as to how far they move; while this could lead to a very long game with the wrong, we've always found the game to move right along. It's also one of the better three player games I've played.

"We came up with the concept for Reiner Knizia's Samurai following discussions regarding the types of games that we liked to play, and whether those games were represented within the "mainstream" of current computer game development," said David Adams, president of Klear Games.

German Game Authors Revisited - #6 - Reiner Knizia
Euphrat & Tigris represents, in my opinion, Knizia's best job of weaving together the game mechanics and the theme; as such, it is my favorite of his games.
Since Euphrat & Tigris is often considered as part of Knizia's tile-laying trilogy, it only makes sense to note the other two presently.

 Funagain Games: Samurai
When we learned a couple of years ago that Reiner was working on a "gamer's game", I, like many another, got very excited.
It is not a similarity that you can push too far, because one of the characteristics of Reiner's work is that he doesn't recycle his ideas to anything like the extent that other prolific designers do, but there is a common thread of inspiration, even though there is no overlap in the actual mechanics.
Hans im Glück were giving Franz Vohwinkel almost equal billing with Reiner in the pre-Essen publicity and he deserves it.
