Kristensen, by using a WGA-gold labeling technique, determined Kinorhyncha, Priapulida, and Loricifera have chitin in the procuticle.
In agreement with Kristensen, de Rosa (1999) largely based the similarities of these four phyla by the identification of clade-specific Hox paralog groups, and a repeat found in the b-Thymosin homologues (Halanych and Passamaneck, 2001).
Kristensen (1999) suggests the loricifera abdomen is covered with a cuticularized girdle called the lorica.

Reinhardt Kristensen is an invertebrate biologist, noted for the discovery of three new phyla of microscopic animals: the LoriciferaLoricifera is a small phylum of marine sediment-dwelling animals with about a dozen known species.
The animals have a head, mouth and digestive system as well as a set of specialized umbrella skeleton like scales at each end that are used to move the animals.
Symbion does not appear to have any especially close relatives, and so was given its own phylum, named Cycliophora....

 Cycliophora
The discovery of an animal that was, not only a new species, but of a whole new phylum of organisms, in 1994 by Reinhardt Kristensen and Peter Funch was perhaps the most exciting happening in the biological world in the last decade of the 20th century.
The single known species of Cycliophora, Symbion pandora lives on the bristles surrounding the mouth of the Norway lobster Nephrops norvegicus a relatively common species of crustacean which can be caught in the Kattegat Straits, a busy shipping lane between Sweden and Denmark as well as around the Faroes.

In the scientific journal Nature last week, scientists reported discovering that the mouthparts of a lobster are populated by a flyspeck-sized animal, Symbion pandora, that sweeps up and eats food spills from the sloppy lobster itself.
The big surprise is how different this creature is from anything studied before -- so different that its discoverers, Peter Funch and Reinhardt Mobjerg Kristensen of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, wrote that they have classified it in a new phylum, the second-highest category by which scientists classify life forms.
There are only 35 or so known phyla; the only higher category is "kingdom," as in the plant or animal kingdoms.

In the late1970s, scientists were blown away by the discovery, via DNA sequence analysis, that the Archea (formerly grouped in with bacteria) represented a whole new domain of life, bringing to three the divisions of highest classification (into Eukaryota, Eubacteria, and Archaea).
In 1995, Reinhardt Kristensen and Peter Funch found a new phylum living on the mouthparts of the Norway lobster.
The phylum is currently made up of Symbion pandor—a tiny epizoite (an organism that lives on the surface of another living creature) with a complicated life cycle and bizarre body plan—and its discovery brought the number of known animal phyla to 34.
