The first runner-up, USA's Dianna Lynn Batts, later gained notoriety as Dian Parkinson of the TV show "The Price is Right", from which she was kicked out during the 1980s because of a scandalous affair with the host, Bob Barker.
Encouraged by her fellow medical students, Reita Faria had entered the Miss Bombay contest as a joke, and was surprised when she not only won it, but also was sent to London as India's Miss World representative.
Reita did not take the event too seriously, she was cool and unconcerned.

I found it odd that even though Reita Faria won Miss World in the 60s, and India had a minor streak going in Miss Universe in the 1970s, pageant fever haven't gripped India until Sushmita's Miss Universe win.
Personally I think the India success started in 1990 with Suzanne Sabloak and Indians started taking pageants seriously with the victory of Sushmita Sen at Miss Universe.
