In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode which introduced the trill species, Beverly Crusher is "rejoined" with the trill symbiont with whom she has fallen in love, discovering that the being's new host is also female.
This is a classic episode which every Star Trek fan should have in their collection.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the first episode, the crew discovers the presence of a nearby stable wormhole, which provides immediate transportation to and from the distant Gamma Quadrant; this makes the station an important strategic asset, as well as a vital center of commerce with a largely-unexplored area of space.
Dukat in particular was the focus of several episodes, such as the sixth-season episode "Waltz", in which he has gone insane and begins to hallucinate, and "Covenant", in which he becomes a twisted messianic figurehead for a group of Pah Wraith-worshipping Bajorans.
Episodes of DS9 were made available on VHS cassettes, which generally contained one episode each (two-part episodes were combined on a single cassette).

By the time of the episode "Penumbra", Damar was descending into depression and alcoholism, and was essentially little more than a figurehead, though he had enough clout to secretly aid Dukat in his plan to masquerade as a Bajoran.
Molly moved to DS9 with her parents, and was taken along by her mother on the Janitza Mountains expedition on Bajor, which lasted for a year and a half.
She was present when the Reckoning began between a Prophet and a pah-wraith, but, lacking faith in the outcome, she then went to Ops and triggered a buildup of chroniton radiation, driving the beings away and disrupting the battle, thus leaving Bajor's future in grave doubt.

[DS9] "Rejoined" Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The episode itself was a simple love story that could have been done very easily with a male "Lenara" as with a female one.
"Rejoined", far from being the ratings-grabbing "look, we're doing a lesbian story!" episode I expected from all the advance press, was a story with a solid emotional core to it, and that kept to it regardless of consequences.
DS9 is now 5 for 5 this season; while not every episode so far has been a standout, there hasn't been a clunker yet.

The "DS9" episode, titled "Rejoined," centered on the alien "symbiot" (or "Trill") known as Dax.
In "Rejoined," Jadzia is reunited with Lenara -- a woman that Dax had been married to a century ago, when he was hosted by a male humanoid.
"Rejoined" not only demonstrated a rather casual acceptance of same-gender and bisexual relationships, but also explored the broader issue of discrimination and taboos associated with love (it is revealed that "Trill" culture has a taboo against association with "past-life" lovers).

The opening episode of DS9 is one of my favorite episodes on T.V. It introduced a strong male African-American who cared deeply about his son, and used baseball to teach the laws of cause and effect.
DS9 is unique in terms of the effort devoted to the characters, trying to show them living their daily lives and yet exposing them to conflicts of all kinds.
In the episode 'Rejoined' it was made very clear that Trill's were not to have anything to do with their former host's lives under any circumstances.

As both Jadzia and Lenara carry the memories of their past hosts, they struggle with their feelings, because Trill customs expressly prohibit reassociation.
This episode summary has been identified as lacking essential detail, and as such needs attention.
The working title of this episode was "Once Joined." In the original version of the story, Kahn was a man.

 Reaction to "Rejoined"
At least "Rejoined" was far superior in terms of imagery to "The Outcast", where we had a male actor kissing a female actor who was playing a sad sack, rather unattractive genderless character.
Again, although this excellent episode presented an extremely positive message and delivered some historic same-sex imagery, the substitution of one episode for the inclusion of a fully developed on-going character(s) would be a great disappointment.
Critics of the episode are likely to have two main complaints: That it's pushing a political agenda for "normalizing" homosexuality, and that, as such, it's a particular betrayal of families because of the extra attraction science fiction has for children.

Ex Astris Scientia - The Trill Problem
DS9 Trills are completely different than TNG Trills in almost all respects - although the people who created Dax probably thought they would make only a few insignificant changes to the species' outer appearance.
Odan himself sort of lies to her at the beginning of the episode when he claims to be the former Odan's son, to keep the true nature of his species secret.
Finally, it is obvious that DS9 Trill is supposed to be a member of the Federation and most likely even a long-time member, whereas this definitely isn't the case with TNG Trill.

DS9 and VGR were billed, in part, as series in which confliuct between different types of regular characters will be common.
In the first episode, Kirk splits in two, but it is apparent by the end of the episode that neither Kirk could survive as a distinct entity for too long.
A typical episode of "Voyager" has four parts: the introduction (when a conflict is introduced), the rising action (which takes most of the show), the climax (when the conflict is resolved), and the denouement, in that order.

The mirror universe was featured in five episodes of the series: "Crossover", "Through the Looking Glass", "Shattered Mirror", "Resurrection", and "The Emperor's New Cloak".
In addition to the visits to the mirror universe, the DS9 writing staff wrote a number of episodes where the character of Miles O'Brien would be subject to particular trauma.
DS9 was also the only series to run opposite another Trek show (first TNG, then Voyager) for the entirety of its run.

DS9 Review for "Rejoined"   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
This story show cased two of TNG's perenial weak points: a weakness for setting up a planetary society that allows them to make a BIG point with heavily moral overtones and a simultaneous tendancy to duck the really sticky points but to retreat from them in a cloud of pious politically correct plattitudes.
The episode that introduced the Trill had a similiar problem with its ending - an ending they just should have done differently if they were going to do it that badly.
There is not one scene or line in the episode that would have been different if Lanna had been a man. The whole taboo was about replaying past relationships irrelevant of gender.

Adventurous because the Star Trek franchise and namely DS9 crew made yet another bold step and deliberately challenged the audience to see if they could look beyond the physical (gender issues) and see the story for what it was - basically a love story.
