Relevance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Relevance is argued to depend upon the “remoteness relationship” between an actual world in which relevance is being evaluated and the set of possible worlds within which it is true.
He suggested that the relevance of a piece of evidence, such as a true proposition, should be defined in terms of the changes it produces of estimations of the probability of future events.
Relevance is restricted to relationships between utterances and interpretations, and so the theory cannot account for intuitions such as the one that relevance relationships obtain in problems involving physical objects.

Relevance (law) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Relevance, in the common law of evidence, is the tendency of a given item of evidence to prove or disprove one of the legal elements of the case, or to have probative value to make one of the elements of the case likelier or not.
Relevance is ordinarily a necessary condition, but not a sufficient condition, for the admissibility of evidence.
For example, relevant evidence may be excluded if its tendency to prove or disprove a fact is heavily outweighed by the possibility that the evidence will prejudice or confuse the jury.

LECTURE I. - EARLY FORMS OF LIABILITY.
The substance of the law at any given time pretty nearly [2] corresponds, so far as it goes, with what is then understood to be convenient; but its form and machinery, and the degree to which it is able to work out desired results, depend very much upon its past.
In 1851, Congress passed a law, which is still in force, and by which the owners of ships in all the more common cases of maritime loss can surrender the vessel and her freight then pending to the losers; and it is provided that, thereupon, further proceedings against the owners shall cease.

THE RELEVANCE OF JOHN WESLEY'S DISTINCTIVE CORRELATION OF LOVE AND LAW
Law, as well as a Kempis and Taylor, had awakened Wesley to religion; however, the influence of these men upon him was to encourage undue as well as unwarranted emphasis upon man’s duty and obligation.
When some of the Moravians made certain deductions from the doctrine of justification by faith, such as the deduction that the law is made of none effect and the further deduction that the means of grace ordained by the Church are useless, Wesley rejected the deductions and relied upon his Anglican doctrine and practice.
A normative statement as to the perennial relevance of Wesley’s religious thought is given in the Methodist Discipline: "The gospel which Wesley thus found for himself he began to proclaim to others…His message had a double emphasis, which has remained with Methodism to this day.

Tyndale, No. 00-0113 (the doctrine of chances is a viable theory of logical relevance, and it posits that it is unlikely a defendant would be repeatedly, innocently involved in similar, suspicious circumstances).
Tyndale, No. 00-0113 (to avail oneself of the doctrine of chances, the proponent of the evidence must show that the "other acts" are sufficiently similar; while the factual bases at issue between the charged and uncharged acts need not mirror one another, there must be more than the crudest sort of similarities between the two).

The Continuing Relevance of Divine Law
Clearly, that the law of Moses was the law of God does not require that the law of God was (or is) the law of Moses: the law given by Moses was from the Lord, and this is all the equation requires.
Having shown that the law of God/eternal standard of morality is independent of Mosaic legislation, the necessary next step is to examine the teaching of the New Testament regarding the present relevance of the law of Moses.
It was argued earlier that the three-fold division of the law of Moses was artificial and not exegetically justifiable.

Renunciations to Future Successions in pre-1789 French Law
It ought not to be decided by the civil law, because it is as necessary that there should be demesnes for the subsistence of a state, as that the state should have civil laws to regulate the disposal of property.
The law which regulates the succession of individuals is a civil law, whose view is the interest of individuals; that which regulates the succession to monarchy is a political law, which has in view the welfare and preservation of the kingdom.

 Walras Law Guide
The relevance of Walras Law for macroeconomic (and especially unemployment) theory.
As we shall see, this implication of Walras Law leads many to be concerned about the theoretical grounding of Keynes' theory of unemployment and to be worried when a macroeconomic modeller says "let us assume that all markets are in equilibrium except the labour market".
The attack on the relevance of Walras Law for modelling situations in which there is involuntary unemployment was developed by Robert Clower (from the University of South Carolina) and Axel Leijonhufvud (from the University of California at Los Angeles).

And foreign law is used by Justices who don't apply the law, but make moral judgments.
