If the consequences of marriage are not distinguished from those of domestic relationships, the theme runs, marriage will die out. Whether based on particular religious grounds or not, proponents of the preferential status of marriage are concerned that the demise of marriage will inevitably have the downfall of our stable society as a consequence.
History of heterosexual marriage 7.1.24 Matrimony in the Germanic period had features of the African lobolo marriage, being a covenant between two families. Negotiations between the prospective bridegroom’s family and that of the girl were followed by a wedding feast, whereafter consummation set the seal upon the union.

Religious justifications for preserving the current definition of marriage cannot properly be ruled out of order where, as here, the state can legitimately regulate marriage as a civil institution.
In conclusion, we are convinced that the divine wisdom that created and ordained marriage between a man and a woman is clearly reflected in public health and welfare data that is subject to objective assessment, and that same-sex marriage constitutes an experimental and dangerous social policy.

The Law and Religion / Religious views have a place in same-sex marriage debate
There are plenty of good civic reasons to defend the traditional definition of marriage (such as preserving the ideal environment for raising children and promoting healthy balance between the sexes), but religious Americans have every right to participate in the national debate about marriage without being forced to cite such civic reasons.
Religious teachings are sufficient cause to get involved in the political process and take a stand on a public issue.
In addition, traditionally religious business owners who give preference or a discount to married couples should be able to make their own decisions about whether such benefits apply to same-sex couples, rather than have that choice taken away from them.

There are marriages that desperately need to be dissolved for the safety of the children, for instance, and divorced parents who do a very good job of keeping both parents closely involved in the children's lives.

Religious Support for Equal Marriage Rights
Civil marriage and religious marriage are different institutions, but are often confused with each other because states allow the religious ceremony to double as the state ceremony.
State governments generally let religious ceremonies double as state ceremonies (in some states it is illegal to call a religious blessing a marriage without benefit of a marriage license from the state); the civil definition of marriage covers almost all religious definitions.
Many religious organizations, including some that do not recognize religious same-gender marriage, either directly support civil marriage for same-gender couples, support equal rights for same-gender couples, or are opposed to the denial of equal rights for same-gender couples.

The government has become so entangled in marriage that people have trouble distinguishing between the conditions for obtaining a license and the conditions for maintaining an institution that predates such requirements by thousands of years.
Marriage licenses do not distinguish between people who marry for love and people who marry for money, or between couples who plan to have children and couples who don't.
More to the point, as the Massachusetts court recognized, civil marriage is "a wholly secular institution"—a fact that all the talk of defending "the sanctity of marriage" tends to obscure.

While arranged marriages are not illegal in the US, generally the overwhelming perspective is that it is critical that the couple is compatible and in love, and therefore self-selection of a life mate is the social norm.
Also, it would definitely be illegal for an arranged marriage to be performed if it is against the will of either the bride or the groom, or if the legal age requirements have not been met.
One of the keys to a succesful marriage is the ability to have good conflict resolution skills..there are going to be ups and downs but if you can't work problems out, you're in for a miserable ride..at least in the Western institution.
