'Remain In Light' was issued in October 1980.
The music was funkier, with more embellishments than before, and 'Remain in Light' represented a completely new approach, rather than an alteration of the old one.
Even without a single, Remain in Light was a hit, indicating that Talking Heads were connecting with an audience ready to follow their musical evolution, and the album was so inventive and influential, it was no wonder.

I was trying to explain to a friend how he absolutely must purchase Talking Heads' best and most innovative album, Remain In Light, and his reply was: "I own Sand In The Vaseline." Implying that it, the band's greatest hits compilation, was sufficient for anyone who wants to get into the music of Talking Heads.

Remain in Light is indeed a massive shake-your-booty album (if you have some dancing creativity, that is), albeit moreso on side one than two, yet the amount of stuff happening on top of that dancable foundation would make any art-rock band proud.

[...] Remain in Light, by Haruki Nishijima, is a visual representation of ambient analog sound waves captured using an "electronic insect-collecting kit." The "collector" carries an insect net that functions as an antenna and is attached to a device designed to capture the waves.
These fragments of analogue information are transmitted to a computer that transforms them into points of light that are then projected onto the exhibition space.

Shedding new light on Talking Heads' "Remain in Light" by Seth Rogovoy
While Talking Heads and other like-minded artists had been experimenting with some of the innovations that came to full fruition on "Remain in Light," including the dense layers of overdubbed keyboards, guitars, percussion and electronics, and the non-linear song structures, none had the lasting impact that the album enjoyed.
While the Talking Heads's previous album, "Fear of Music," hinted at the shape of things to come, "Remain in Light" was a headfirst dive into polyrhythmic funk that left any vestiges of the new-wave group's punk minimalism behind.
Reid is fascinated by "Remain in Light"'s thematic obsession with alienation and technology, which he also sees as being ahead of its time, if not downright prophetic.

And with those words, Webb provides a perfectly succinct introduction to the Cons' spectacular new album, Shine a Light, their first for Seattle indie institution Sub Pop Records, who were one of a handful of US labels wowed by the SXSW spectacle.
As on their debut, Webb's parched-throat prose straddles a reverence for classic-rock mythology and a punk-inspired desire to destroy it: kill your idols, just be sure to pay your respects at the funeral.
But importantly, Shine a Light tempers the debut's idealistic, polemic proclamations with a more realistic but altogether more optimistic outlook -- one ironically inspired by Webb, singer/guitarist Steve Lambke and bassist Dallas Wehrle's relocation from the cozy communalism of Guelph to Toronto in 2001.
