Remembrance of the Daleks is one of the best examples of this in 1980s Who.
Daleks so predictable and childish generate no tension as it’s blatantly obvious that they are just going to sit there chanting away to themselves until someone comes to the rescue.
The Daleks were never portrayed as creatures of logic until 'Destiny of the Daleks', with examples of Daleks losing their temper or panicking scattered throughout the series and just as I hated this development in 'Destiny of the Daleks' I hate it here too.

Remembrance of the Daleks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Remembrance of the Daleks is a serial in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in four weekly parts from October 5 to October 26, 1988.
The Dalek Supreme, the last Renegade Dalek on Earth, destroys itself when told by the Doctor that it is the last of its kind.
For the final battle sequence between the Renegade and Imperial Daleks, the BBC Effects Department's pyrotechnics were so loud and the explosions so realistic that the London Fire Brigade was despatched to the scene by local residents who feared that a terrorist bomb had detonated.

Daleks also have a radio communicator built into their shells, and emit an alarm to summon other nearby Daleks if the casing is opened from outside.
Remembrance of the Daleks (1988) showed that they can hover using a sort of limited antigravity — first implied in earlier serials such as The Chase (1965) and Revelation of the Daleks (1985) — but their awkward forms still limit their mobility in tight quarters.
Remembrance of the Daleks also marked the last on-screen appearance of the Daleks in the context of the programme until 2005, save for charity specials like Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death and the use of Dalek voices in the 1996 television movie.

The Doctor must prevent the Daleks from obtaining the Hand of Omega, or else they will be unstoppable in their conquest of the universe and their extermination of all other races.
The Renegade Dalek faction is based in a scrap yard, where they are aided by a bunch of Neo Nazis who are unhappy with life in an integrated, democratic Britain, but who mainly want power for their own sake.
The Doctor has faced the Daleks and their creator Davros before, and he knows how they think- he knows negotiations are futile, but he also knows how to manipulate them, provoke them into doing something self defeating.

Remembrance of the Daleks (1987) marked not only a good Doctor Who adventure but one with an air of nostalgia.
Throughout this tale of Daleks wobbling their way to domination of the universe and the eradication of Time Lords, there are some nice (The Doc making a Pertwee-like gadget) and heavy-handed (a tv set about to play the original, first Who episode) references to the shows history.
Remembrance does contain what is considered to be a questionable decision on the Doctor's part and hints at a more luminary background.

Dalek creator Terry Nation, now living and working in California, was offered the chance to write a serial for the new season, but turned it down.
Finally, observing that Terry Nation had always intended the Daleks to be a metaphor for the Nazis, Aaronovitch drew upon the burgeoning racist and fascist sentiment in early-Sixties England.
Post-production on Remembrance Of The Daleks was somewhat more intensive than usual, partly because of the many effects sequences but also because this would mark the first Doctor Who serial broadcast in stereo (as well as one of the first such programmes in Britain).

"Remembrance of the Daleks," the final Doctor Who story to feature the titular mutant cyborgs, is a particularly notable adventure for the way it ties the plot into the very first story, "An Unearthly Child," made 25 years before.
It is 1963, and the seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, arrives in London with new companion Ace (Sophie Aldred), where two Dalek factions are engaged in a deadly search for the Hand of Omega.
The Daleks remain as menacing as ever, the plotting has an intriguing air of mystery, and McCoy injects some steel into his characterization.

The story was excellent, Davros finally raising his own Dalek army to take on those Daleks who have rejected him, and the fight that ensues, is good in itself, but add in the Doctor's meddling and the trap he set and it becomes nothing short of brilliant with action and developments all over the place.
The Dalek rays, the explosions and the destruction of the Transmat are all conveyed convincingly.
Remembrance Of The Daleks is by far my favourite of all the televised Dalek serials for the simple reason that it manages to reinvent the series yet remain a traditional adventure at heart.

Dr Who - Remembrance of the Daleks is fondly remembered by many fans and has topped several "Favourite Story" type polls, and Sylvester McCoy (the seventh Doctor) and Sophie Aldred (the companion, Ace), are quite likeable in their roles.
Although this was the first time the pair had worked together in a full story with Ace as a companion, there is an obvious chemistry between them as characters and actors, confirmed when listening to their commentary.
In Dr Who - Remembrance of the Daleks, the lead actors are strong and charismatic, but many of the supporting actors are stilted and the characters shallow, never questioning even once who the Doctor is and why he is interfering.
