 Adjusting the Remington 700 Trigger
The Remington trigger system is a very good system that in years past came directly from the factory with a crisp and reasonable pull.
These days however, Remington is producing triggers that are not as smooth and are liability proof with pull weights that have gotten to the point of being ridiculous.
These changes are due to Remington trying to reduce the cost of their rifles and the ever present fear of civil liability from a trigger that is too light.

These actions are all chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO and are house tuned by Marine armorers; the trigger guard assembly is manufactured by the DD Ross Company, though several M40A3s use Badger Ordnance trigger guards.

We recently performed a review on the Remington 700 SPS-Varmint to test the suitability of that rifle as a tactical rifle, but this time around we will be testing the Remington 700 SPS Tactical rifle to see how well it performs.
The Remington 700P LTR with its fluted 20" barrel has a reputation of being the most accurate of the mass produced tactical rifles that Remington makes and many people believe that the 18-20" barrel lengths are ideal for the best accuracy with a.308, though you do give up some velocity.
As is not totally uncommon with Remington rifles, the mounting holes were a bit off center and it took a decent amount of left scope adjustments to zero.

During tests performed by the Remington engineering department, one rifle has already been fed 10,000 rounds of factory ammo and the most sophisticated of measuring instruments are unable to detect any wear on the insert.
The Model 700 trigger is comprised of various components held in position inside a steel housing which is attached to the bottom of the receiver with crosspins.
Remington engineers who designed the Model 710 had promised management a level of accuracy equal to that of the Model 700, and if my rather brief experience with one rifle holds true for all the rest, they most certainly met their goal.

Lilja Precision Rifle Barrels - Articles: 378 Weatherby Cases in the Remington 700 Action?
I don't think your question about the compatibility of a Remington 700 action and a 416 Rigby or.378 Weatherby case is inappropriate at all.
If we run the numbers through the program for our example here, the 378 Weatherby case and a standard Remington 700 action, we find that the bolt thrust value is about 12,760 pounds for a stiff handload (and whose aren't?) of 65,000 PSI.
My advice, when asked, is to leave the Remington 700 for smaller cases.

the 700 meters you mentioned) you will probably have a very difficult time convincing a jury that you were in immediate and eminent danger, and therefore justified in shooting at someone at that distance.
1) Remington 700's that were manufactured in the late 60's — early 70's (you'd have to check with Remington or someone who keeps up with manufacture of that rifle) had a three-position safety — on, off, and a position to lock the bolt down.
The bottom line is that if the 700 had a perennial problem with this, Remington wouldn't manufacture the rifle anymore, as it would be too great a liability for them.
