Many of these species are common within their ranges and some are amongst the most-studied birds in the world, but others are poorly known and a few are endangered.
The Paridae ('true' tits), Remizidae (penduline tits) and Aegithalidae (long-tailed tits) form the bulk of the book (78 species), with a further 24 species of nuthatch and eight treecreepers.
The 36 highly detailed plates illustrate all the species and many races, and there are over 100 colour maps and additional line drawings.

warblers   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Vermivora, Lucy's Warbler builds cup nests in cavities, crevices, and old Verdin (
Auriparus flaviceps, Remizidae) nests, and may be more than six feet above the ground.
It is possible that high nesting in Lucy’s Warbler is the result of adaptation in response to competition for suitable nest sites and/or response to predation pressure in an environment where vegetation is sparse and little cover is available.
