It is a completely different engine from the CVH engine and must not be mistaken with it.
The CHT (Compound High Turbulence) engine was introduced by Ford in 1984 in the mk3 version of the Ford Escort, the first released in Brazil.
The engine itself is an evolution of the very efficient Renault Ventoux engine, which Ford got as a legacy for buying the brazilian Willys/Renault plant in late 60's, as happened with the Ford Corcel.

In 1948, in the Mont Ventoux race in the South of France, the five competing 4CVs take the first five places, and at the Monte Carlo rally five Renault vehicles again take the top five positions.
Many of its supplies were imported, but as a "Daughter of the Nation", it was the company's duty to create jobs.
At the end of 1954, the record-breaking 500,000th 4CV was produced by Renault.

It is a R4 engine with the 800 prefix, R4 carb and manifold.
Looking at the engine in the 'boot', the manifold should be on the left hand side with a fan at the front and then the radiator.
The 354 gearbox was introduced in various forms for the 6, 5 and 4 in both the 3 bearing (ventoux) engine and 5 bearing (sierra) engine.

Since the rallies in the Championship requires to have a more powerful engine than the standard Ventoux, we thought it was not good idea to attend the event in my Dauphine 1090, we won the past two competitions and wanted to stay as leaders, so we started thinking in alternative cars.
On Friday, after a test drive of both cars we found that any of them would be good, but the speedometer in the Alpine was not very accurate since the needle was "dancing" between 30 and 80 km/h at the same speed, it would be a problem in a time and distance rally...

Toad’s engine was actually doing its stuff very well but consuming its equivalent of real ale in impressive quantities for an eight year old.
The historic Mont Ventoux is now a 15 km rally and Tour de France stage and the road surface and crash barriers are daubed with names which makes the place very atmospheric.
There had been lots of it around on Mont Ventoux so I suppose the route must have been completely blocked but it is a shame to miss out on so much fun.

The 1400cc engine is developing about 110hp in a car weighing about 650kg with good levels of grip and handling well.
The 16TS engine Supercharged with Holley 350 Carby, and an appropriate Cam, is good for 145 eng hp, I've installed Holden Camira EFI, but not had it Dynoed yet.
Guys in the UK have been known to get over 300hp from their GT Turbo engines with the right modifications, not sure of rally reliability, possibly 250 would be more reliable for your needs.

With just 10cm (4inch) remaining space up front and at his rear end and using his 289 brutal engine power, leaving his headlights and taillights partially behind, he succeeded to get out of this trap, but some of the damage pulled him out of the race on the road to Monza later.

They were known to burn holes in the pistons due to uneven engine cooling.
Renault appparently never adjusted these to use in the US which has much greater temperature extremes- much hotter weather plus long distance travel did not suit the Dauphine.

As well as the factory’s own body styles - a number of them like the Galibier, Ventoux and Stelvio named after mountain passes - many of the Type 57s were clothed by specialist coachbuilders eager to get their share of the prestige brought by working with the most glamorous high-performance marque of the era.
It’s worth bearing in mind, though, that even the post-war Jaguar XK120, when fitted with a standard engine rather than the tweaked version of the press road test cars, couldn’t beat the straight-line performance of a Type 57.

Sounds like your idea of a Renault 5 and what a Renault 5 actually is have about as much in common as Goulburn and Canberra :-) It actually has very little in common with a Renault 12, apart from sharing various mechanicals.
However you are probably right about only being slightly rare in Australia, as there seem to be a fair few examples around even though it was never officially sold here.
I have to agree, it would be good to be in original condition, maybe good for one of the rare owners who have a real Renault 5 Turbo, I think they would look good next to each other.
