Renfield - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dwight Frye as Renfield in the 1931 adaptation of Dracula.
Renfield is a fictional character in the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker.
Film adaptations of the novel, if they include Renfield, have a tendency to expand his role, making him a more active and long-standing servant of the vampire Count and often depicting his zoophagous mania as a result of falling under Dracula's influence, rather than as a pre-existing condition that made him vulnerable to it.

Renfield syndrome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Renfield syndrome, also known as clinical vampirism, is a mental disease somewhat recognised by doctors in modern times as the obsession to drink blood.
The term had been very controversial, since very few cases of the syndrome have been identified and therefore many psychologists thought that the Renfield syndrome is most likely a form of paranoid schizophrenia.
Renfield's Syndrome was discredited in the mid 1980’s, as the standard obsessive-compulsive disorder Attention-Deficient/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which can be treated with several proven medications, and by personal awareness of the condition.

Renfield was nearly frightened by this young woman (and not only because of her pregnancy) but because she wore a miniskirt to the interview and furthermore she was with an equally disturbing young woman whom Nola introduced as her hairdresser friend, Gracie Middleton.
Renfield had also recently hired a new personal nurse for Quinton, who suffered from some wicked headaches due to the many competitors (some not so legal) he had in finding new archaeological sites (and then exploring them) and from the many women who were attracted to Quinton, some who had left him very unhappy.
Renfield would also take note of the fact that Lesley Ann (a recent transplant to Springfield from Oklahoma) was not very fond of Nola (at least at first, she'd get over this when she saw Nola's former fiancé, Floyd Parker) and Lesley Ann was never on good terms with Nola's friend, Gracie.

 Vampirica Pseudepigrapha
Like Bertha Mason, Renfield is a pivotal character in that he is the proverbial canary in the coal mine, alerting the reader to imminent danger.
Renfield in particular is silenced ultimately in how he is dismissed, both by Bram Stoker, and by his culture, as a mere madman whose perspective is not valuable, and whose life is easily expendable in the service of furthering the plot.
Lucas’s Renfield is an interesting character in his own right, and the author’s formation of him is deeply grounded in both Stoker’s characterization of Dr. Seward’s patient and in previous retellings of Dracula that have likewise contributed to the collective story.

The point is driven home when Dracula rather mysteriously explains to Renfield, spooked by the size of his web on the staircase, "The spider spinning his web for the unwary fly.
