The new railway system, operating between Renfrew and Paisley, was opened in 1873, with a large procession complete with bunting and flags.
A service was run between Renfrew and Glasgow, the coach leaving Renfrew High Street every day except on Sunday and returning from Glasgow Trongate in the late afternoon.
Spiers and the Burgh and finally in 1796 he built, at his own expense, two quays and ferry houses with stables at Yoker and Renfrew and completed a road between the town and the ferry, the present Ferry Road, at a personal cost of £3000.

The Burgh of Renfrew was covered by temporary premises in the Burgh of Paisley, Sandyford Fire Station was a four bay garage and two pre-fabricated huts.
The Renfrew Town Brigade, had a Rose steam engine and the horses used to pull it were from Walter Johnston, carrier and undertaker, and on occasion the horses from the Cleansing Dept were also used.
To return to Renfrew, there were two other fire units, one at the Lobnitz Work, this was a Merryweather steam engine, the other was at the Co-op, what type they had is not known.

A better road in to the station was promised,however it did not materialize and the difficult access was considered a reason for the station's closure in 1907.

When the line was extended to Scott Road Station in Surrey in 1990, a spur track was built just east of Columbia Station in anticipation of such an extension.
In Coquitlam, an extension of the Millennium Line from Lougheed Town Centre Station to Coquitlam Town Centre was proposed when the original Millennium Line was built, and the necessary junction tracks already exist at Lougheed Town Centre Station.
An extension of the Millennium Line from Commercial Drive to VCC Stations is already under construction and is due to open in 2005.
