Rennell and Bellona is a province of the Solomon Islands comprised of two atolls, Rennell and Bellona, or Mu Nggava and Mu Ngiki respectively in Polynesian.
Rennell Island is almost totally surrounded by 120-150m cliffs and comprises mostly of raised coral limestone, with the eastern end dominated by a brackish lake, Lake Te Nggano (also Lake Tungano), while the western end is relatively flat from the northern to southern coasts with rolling hills, (forested where not pasturalised), indicating its volcanic origins.
The people of Rennell are geographically divided between the lower lake end and the higher end by two Christian religions.

The two Polynesian island of Rennell (Mu Nggava) and Bellona (Mu Ngiki) are raised atolls, Rennell being the largest example on earth.
Bellona was settled after the incumbent Hitis, a race of "small hairy" people, were forcibly eliminated by Kaitu'u (You can still visit the Hiti caves).
Due to fighting between the clans, only one of the voyaging families (the Taupongi clan who settled West Bellona) persisted together with that of Kaitu'u (who became a powerful chief, almost a demigod, and controlled the rest of Bellona and all of Rennell).

Certainly not welcome on Rennell and Bellona, as the flights are usually the only practical way of getting stuff there, as the islands don't have any good harbours and freight ships are few and very far between.
From the airstrip on the northern part of the island we rode on the back of a sort of scheduled truck on the road/trail to the southern part of Rennell to the lake Te'Nggano which is the largest lake in the Pacific.
We also got to see what the young people did for sports, soccer and volleyball, we took part in one of the very frequent religious services (not very long, as that wouldn't be practical when they're kept three times a day every day).

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (PFnet News/SIBC)---A ship is expected to leave next week with relief food supplies and planting materials for Rennell and Bellona islands.
Speaking to SIBC, Director of the National Disaster Management Office in Honiara, Loti Yates reports that confirmation has been given by donor partners to assist victims of Cyclone Beni, which struck Rennell and Bellona recently.
Yates confirms a shipment of 50 tonnes of rice and planting materials to the two islands will be next week.
