 Pirate Near Greats
Stennett would seem to repeat the same trick several times in succession until word got around as to how to prevent him from doing whatever he was doing, and then he'd have to come up with something else.
Steve said Rennie was never the same player again, " It was a real shame as he was just 26 and appeared to be really coming into his prime." Chuck said, "At the time, Stennett was battling Dave Parker for the league lead in batting average -- Stennett was hitting.336 (behind Parker's.343).
Stennett, if my memory serves me correctly, still had a shot at the batting title, since others saw their averages dip from that point on, and if one added the requisite hitless at-bats to Stennett's total to come up with 502 plate appearances, he still had a decent average."

Dave Cash (baseball) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He was the Pirates' primary second baseman from 1971-73, but his playing time was reduced somewhat by military service commitments and by the presence on the team of veteran second baseman Bill Mazeroski and rising star Rennie Stennett.
After the 1973 season, with Stennett ready to play regularly and another excellent young second baseman (Willie Randolph) in their minor league system, the Pirates decided to trade Cash to the Phillies for pitcher Ken Brett.
Cash was part of what is believed to be the first all-fl starting lineup (including several Latinos) in Major League history.
