Under Likert’s direction, the ISR initiated a series of empirical studies within a variety of organizations for the purpose of determining the types of organizational structures and leadership principle that best contributed to high levels of productivity and job satisfaction, while simultaneously achieving low levels of absenteeism and turnover (Wren 1994).
Likert’s research also revealed that productivity was high in groups in which the supervisor and subordinate shared reasonable accurate perceptions of each other.
Likert concluded that supervisors with the best performance records focus their primary attention on the human aspects of their subordinate’s problems and on endeavoring to build effective work groups with high performance goals.

Rensis Likert’s contributions to the field of industrial psychology, however, are based in his study of economics and psychology as one field.
Likert went on to state that education "should be a process of growing from within rather than having knowledge superimposed from without." Once more, Likert's educational views are in agreement with Warren's ideas of a Sarah Lawrence education as "Self Education".
Likert’s assertion that “Employees must be seen as people who have their own needs, desires and values” (“…Styles and Systems” [n.d.]) echoes his educational philosophy’s stress on a student being “emotionally well-adjusted and [having] developed the inner resources as well as the methods to effectively deal with life’s trials and crises” (Likert, 1935).
