Buffalo State College - About Buffalo State - News - News Archive - February 2002 - The Versatile Artistry of Alison ...
Replay is a collection of 15 tracks recorded live in the studio over 2 days between performances at the Grand Ole Opry and the band's departure for the Shetland Islands Folk Festival.
The fact that Replay was not originally intended for commercial release may have played a big part in that feel, creating a sound so enticing that the band later decided that it HAD to be released.
The album consists of a collection of "fan" favorites in the energetic, updated arrangements that have evolved onstage in the years since Alison Brown formed the Quartet.

Envy - Message Board -> Maturity Level
But when Replay came out, they emerged as young, sexy, mature young women (yeah i said young twice lol.) Their lyrics, music, style, and ESPECIALLY choregraphy showed that they were no longer little girls, and they were growing up and feeling what regular teenagers felt.
They and the other three girls wanted Play to continue, and they needed an album that was more mature than "Play" but a little less grown-up than "Replay." So Janet was chosen as the new member and they basically quickly recorded an album targeted at the younger end of Play's fans, the 8-12 group.
Since this album didn't have any lines like "Can't we be alone..and maybe turn down the lights?", it was much easier this time around to include Anna and Rosie into the main singing.

More Of The Monkees 1967's "More Of The Monkees," the group's second album, was by all accounts immensely disliked by the Monkees themselves, particularly Michael Nesmith (who once called it "probably the worst album in the history of the world").
On the negative side, this was the album that introduced the dreaded Moog synthesizer to pop music, but the statute of limitations has passed on that particular Crime Against Humanity.

Quintessence is made of 10 tracks totaling a little over 43 minutes, and they go by pretty fast, leaving me craving for more, and with no alternative but to replay the album.:) The album starts fast and heavy with "Rivalry Of Phantoms", one of the best songs on the album.
The vocals on the second song, "The Presence Is Ominous" are the most notable on the album, as most of the singing is a "team effort" rather than just the lead vocalist, this practically sounds like an anthem.
The rest of the album goes along the same line as the beginning, with the exception of the very short instrumental song "Embers".

I use the album analysis function and apply the album gain since I want to keep the relative volume differences between songs on the same album intact.
That is, that I can analyze each individual album, thereby maintaining relative volume differences within each album, but also roughly equalize volumes across all my APE tracks so that one album doesn't sound a lot louder or softer than the others.
Sorry to be a pain, but I am really hoping for a way to achieve Replaygain album analysis in MJ on my APEs since I am otherwise quite happy and used to the player.

There is nothing wrong with this, but the band's gorgeous jangly guitars and sweet hooks may still not be enough to gather Replay the respect it deserves.
The album may be overbearingly up-tempo at times; a few slower songs would have balanced the mix nicely.
But these are still small complaints when the overall package is examined, leaving the listener with a mildly flawed but still high quality album of poppy rock.

You are correct that mareo will not use album gain, but you can still use mareo, and then replaygain the files as one (or 2) batch operations which is still less labour intensive than your latter approach.
However, the question of using MAREO and then replay-gaining at the album level, as Dreamliner suggested, is still puzzling.

On to the album, if you like the song "Pon De Replay," which I do, don't buy this album thinking that you are going to get a whole album of fast, danceable songs that mix Reggeaton and R&B music.
Most all of the songs on the album have a reggae feel to them but for the most part they don't have the intensity of "Pon De Replay." The album is suprisingly mature.
Another good song on the album is Rihanna's remake of the Dawn Penn classic "No, No, No." Her new lyrics give the song a new flavor.

 Planet Mellotron Album Reviews: P3
The rest of the album's a bit of a mixed bag, with fragments such as Holy Deadlock (vocal mix) being for diehards only, although Study In G is a stunning guitar instrumental that belies Phillips' reputation for being a bit on the meandering side.
I suppose the album's best described as being in 'melancholy singer-songwriter' territory, tipping over into Americana in places, although full-blown country is thankfully a no-no. Not all the tracks caught my ear by any means, but enough did to more than justify its purchase from the 'three for a fiver' racks in Steve's Sounds.
Apparently, she made Christian albums in the '80s under her real name, but let's not hold that against her, as this is actually a halfway decent record, with no obvious God-bothering to be heard.

There is a remarkably simple solution to this annoyance, and that is to store the required replay gain for each track within the track.
