Replay value - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Replay value is a term usually found in combination with video games, but it may be also used to describe other kinds of games, movies, music, or theater plays.
While some genres, especially adventure games, tend to have low replay value (as a focus on storytelling often conflicts with replay value); and other genres, such as strategy games or simulations, tend to have high replay value, ultimately the quality of the game design decides the playability.
Role playing games is a genre which is famous for good replayability, as the player can often play completely different characters each time.

Tokusentai - Tetris Attack: Essay: "Replay Value"
By "replay value," I don't mean how many times you play the game.
For example, you may play an RPG constantly, chalking up forty hours and whatnot, but the replay value is still virtually nil because once you've beaten it, well, you've beaten it.
Arcade games, by definition, have to have high replay values in order to be consistently engaging.

The value of the 'giaddr' field MUST also be set to zero for the computation because it may be modified in networks where one relay agent adds the relay agent option but another relay agent sets 'giaddr' (see RFC 3046, section 2.1).
Replay Detection The sender obtains a replay-detection counter value to use based on the RDM it is using.
The RDM value 1 is assigned to the use of a monotonically increasing counter value, as defined in section 5.

GameDev.net - Using Low Level Stories
And expecting the player to replay a game he does not like is a sign that the designer has not done a good job.
Also, unlike the high level story, which the designer must make sufficiently different in order to provide good replay value, the low level story is bound to be different each and every time without any effort at all on the part of the designer.
In my opinion, the key to increasing a game's replay value using the low level story is to show the player that his decisions affect the game world.

Adventure Forums - View Single Post - Do adventure games generally have lower replayability value than other games?
You can do it as many times as you like (and I myself do replay my favorite games) but to claim that adventure games, collectively, all offer the same amount of replay value as games whose very gameplay mechanics are BUILT on the gameplay itself is, I think, a bit silly.
I still haven't replayed Deus Ex or Thief 2 although I've tried to start (both of them would be more replayable than any adventure theoretically).
I don't generally replay games, but those that I have replayed have more to do with the quality of the game, rather than some theoretical "replay value".

Sonic 3d blast offers Sonic new 3d levels but needs more replay value and extras.
The last Sonic game released on the Sega Genesis and the first to be on the Saturn, the "3d" in this game is average and pretty much pushes the 3d capabilities of the Genesis to it's limits (that's saying a lot).
Replay Value always kills good Genesis game in the fact that they don't have much (with the exception of Sonic & Knuckles)> This game, again has but one playable character and the emeralds are pathetically easy to snag in this game, plus the reward really isn't worth it.
