 | | Mozambique is mainly a rural society, the largest cities being the capital, Maputo (1.132,000), Beira (294,000) Nampula (232,000) and Quelimane (145,000). |
 | | There is a wide variety of ethnic groups in Mozambique: The population is mainly Tsonga and Changane in the South, Sena in the Centre, Nyanja in the north-west, Macua (the largest linguistic group), Yao and Nyanja in the north and Maconde in the north-east. |
 | | Mozambique's rank by the HDI is, however, two places higher than its rank by real GDP per capita (PPP$), indicating that the country's situation in terms of human development is better than might have been inferred from just the level of its domestic product. |
