WASHINGTON - Republican Governors Association (RGA) Chairman Bob Taft (Ohio) announced the RGA in 2004 has set a new one-year fundraising record for the organization and will surpass the $18 million mark for the first time in its history.
The previous one-year fundraising high at the RGA was established in 2002, when $17.1 million was raised during a year featuring 36 gubernatorial contests.
Republican governors have won 30 of the last 50 gubernatorial contests, with one 2004 race still to be determined, and hold a 28-22 majority, governing 62 percent of the population.

In the third quarter, the RGA had a total of $38,683 aggregate contributions of $2,000 or less for a total of $77,993 contributions that would be eligible under state law in the past six months.
