The Republican River Basin is a 24,900-square-mile watershed, approximately 430 miles in length, that encompasses parts of northeastern Colorado (7,700 square miles), southwestern Nebraska (9,700 square miles), and northern Kansas (7,500 square miles).
The Republican River Compact imposes limitations on the quantity of water that Colorado and Nebraska may divert from the Republican River and its tributaries, based on an apportionment of the "virgin water supply." In accordance with Article IX of the Compact, the States have designated officials to administer the Compact's allocation limits.
Kansas and Nebraska disagree, at a fundamental level, on the meaning of the Republican River Compact, and none of the alternative fora that Nebraska identifies is capable of resolving that interstate dispute.

McCOOK - To promote a better understanding of riparian management, a workshop titled: The Republican River Valley; Living on the Edge, will be held on March 30-31 at the Red Willow County fairgrounds in McCook, Neb. The workshop will introduce landowners in the watershed to information and alternative management opportunities within the riparian area.
The RRRP is made up of volunteer landowners and representatives from private organizations and government agencies that have a common goal in understanding the riparian area, or the area beside a stream that is affected by the water in the channel.
The tour continues with a view of woody vegetation management techniques and equipment, a portable saw mill in action, and an assessment of a short segment of the Republican River to see if it is in proper function condition.
