EPA / NHEERL / Aquatic Stressors / Toxic Chemicals Research
To meet this challenge, research is planned to evaluate the utility of using surrogate species to estimate the effects of toxic chemicals and to develop models that will facilitate extrapolation from one species or taxonomic group to another.
Research in under this topic will describe and demonstrate a framework that will facilitate a more accurate determination of where and to what extent loadings of persistent bioaccumulative toxicants (PBTs) pose unacceptable ecological risks to aquatic ecosystems.
A variety of research is planned, including work to characterize the spatial and temporal distribution of stressors within a given landscape, development of stressor-response relationships for endpoints such as survival and fecundity, and an exploration of ways to extrapolate between species and to take population dynamics and life-stages into account.

Erowid Psychoactive Vaults : Research Chemicals
Chemicals marked on Erowid by our Research Chemical Symbol should be considered experimental chemicals.
Although some people are willing to ingest these chemicals for their effects, it is not reasonable to assume that these chemicals are in any way 'safe' to use recreationally.
Although all psychoactive use involves risk, this class of chemicals has undergone virtually no human or animal toxicity studies and there is little to no data on possible long term problems, addiction potential, allergic reactions, or acute overdoses.

Erowid Psychoactive Vaults : Research Chemicals FAQ
When you take a research chemical, you are stepping out into the unknown, and you could be the unfortunate person to discover a new drug's lethal dose.
If a research chemical is similar to a known drug, there's a good chance it's safety profile is similar; but there's also a very real chance it's not.
With research chemicals, there are often many contradictory reports, and it's hard to say what the typical effects are simply because not enough people have taken them for us to know what the average results are.

Lycaeum > Leda > Research Chemical FAQ
If a research chemical is similar to a known safe drug, there's a very good chance it's safe too; but there's also a very real chance it's not.
If you choose to mix research chemicals with other drugs, always use MUCH lower doses of each drug than you would use if you were taking them separately, because there is always the risk of an unforseen dangerous interaction.
If you plan to keep around research chemicals, its up to you to keep up with changes in the law, or you could find yourself being arrested for something you thought was legal.

EPA / NHEERL / Aquatic Stressors / Toxic Chemicals
However, these procedures are based on simplifying assumptions and a relatively narrow framework that limit their use in fully assessing the risk of a wide range of toxic chemicals to both aquatic life and aquatic-dependent wildlife.
Recent advances in the science regarding the toxicity and bioaccumulation of toxic chemicals need to be incorporated as improvements or used to develop new water quality criteria.
The general goal of EPA's research in this area is to develop scientifically defensible methods for better describing the risks toxic chemicals pose to aquatic life and aquatic-dependent wildlife.

 Chemicals Market Research
Chemicals are of course, vital to society, and as a result the chemicals industry is one of the biggest manufacturing industries in all developed countries.
From the EU’s largest producer Germany to the fast developing China, the chemicals sector is enormously diverse, covering everything from fertilisers to soaps to paints and varnishes.
Chemicals industries across the world are characterised by higher levels of investment than most industries, and hence much of the market research required relates to investment decisions.

Designer drug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term and concept of "research chemicals" was coined by some marketers of designer drugs (particularly of psychedelic drugs in the tryptamine and phenethylamine family).
One researcher of particular fame or notoriety (depending on your viewpoint) is Dr. Alexander Shulgin, who presented syntheses and pharmacological explorations of hundreds of substances in the books TiHKAL and PiHKAL (co-authored with Ann Shulgin), and has served as an expert witness for the defense in several court cases against manufacturers of psychoactive drugs.
The safety of research chemicals is untested and due to the recent development of many of them, laws banning or restricting their use have not been developed yet.

WWF - Research into chemicals in rivers "useless" unless industry acts
WWF-UK has called for immediate government and industry action to tackle oestrogens and other endocrine-disrupting chemicals in light of new evidence from the UK Environment Agency about their negative impacts on fish in England and Wales.
Research released yesterday demonstrates that tiny amounts — less than 1 nanogram per litre — of a potent synthetic hormone used in the contraceptive pill, 17alpha -ethinyl oestradiol, causes effects in a range of fish including two native UK species, the roach and the gudgeon.
The research suggests over 100 sewage treatment works may discharge steroids at concentrations that could cause reproductive effects on fish, which may explain why fish stocks in some UK rivers are lower than expected.

MIT seeks to use the purchasing process to provide researchers with the option of selecting such alternatives, thereby reducing the use of toxic chemicals in research and operations.
The project will develop data on the amounts and types of chemicals purchased by research laboratories; survey users to determine the uses for which these materials are employed; use Green Chemistry data bases to identify less toxic and less polluting alternatives; and make this information readily available to users.
By providing researchers with the information they need to choose less polluting options, and developing effective methods for reducing the volume of toxic chemicals used in academic laboratories, environmental burdens and disposal costs will be reduced and the safety of laboratory personnel will be enhanced.

ScienceDaily: Scientists Suggest Solution To 30-Year-Old Martian Mystery
In 1977, Viking researchers suggested that the apparent contradiction could be explained if a very reactive nonorganic substance that imitated the activity of life by breaking down the nutrients was embedded in the soil.
While ultraviolet radiation from the sun could produce a certain amount of reactive chemicals in the atmosphere, there were no physical processes known to explain how large amounts of such reactive material could accumulate in the Martian soil.
Some researchers at the time considered the possibility that dust storms might be electrically active in a way similar to terrestrial thunderstorms, and that these storms might be a source of the new reactive chemistry.
