RESEN in the Bible Encyclopedia - ISBE (Bible History Online)
Naturally the name "Resen" could exist in any place where there was a spring.
As the Biblical text requires a site lying between Nineveh and Calah (Kouyunjik and Nimroud), it is generally thought to be represented by the ruins at Selamiyeh, about 3 miles North of the latter city.
He supposes that when the inhabitants were asked to what city the ruins belonged, they answered la Resen, "to Resen," which was reproduced by the Greeks as Larissa.

Supposedly Resen was a great city between Calah and Nineveh.
For outsiders seem to have regarded this as one big urban area; see the book of Jona 3:2-3 and Diodorus Siculus II,3 and Strabo 16,1,3 who all describe the city as much larger than Ninua proper could have been.
Aayko Eyma wrote: > All commentators seem to agree that the explanatory gloss > "This is the great city." does not refer to Resen, but to Nineveh > alone or to Nineveh including some or all of the other places > (so: "this bunch together is the Big City").
