The Reserve Special Commendation Ribbon was a decoration of the United States Navy which was authorized for issuance between the years of 1930 and 1941.
The Reserve Special Commendation Ribbon was issued to any officer of the Naval Reserve who had commanded a Naval Reserve Battalion for a period exceeding four years.
The Reserve Special Commendation Ribbon was discontinued on December 7, 1941 in light of the massive expansion and call-up of reserves for duty in the Second World War.

 CAMPAIGN, WAR SERVICE AND UNIT AWARD STREAMERS
The streamer is the World War I Victory Medal ribbon which had a red center with a rainbow on each side of the center stripe and a purple edge.
The sand colored ribbon with red, white, blue, green, and fl stripes represent the desert and the colors of the United States and the coalition members.
The streamer is the same pattern as the Silver Star Medal ribbon consisting of a blue ribbon with a red center stripe with a white stripe on each side of the center and a narrow white stripe on the blue.

 Ribbon Awards & Criteria
Ribbon awards were established as a means to recognize meritorious performance, to provide incentive for greater effort, and to enhance morale.
The NLUS Youth Medal and ribbon with a 5/16" inch silver star affixed to the center of the ribbon may be awarded annually to the unit NSCC Cadet of the Year, as nominated by the sponsored unit's Commanding Officer.
The ribbon frame is worn on the year ribbon for the training year covered by the inspection, or will be moved to the next highest year ribbon (NSCC cadets) for subsequent awards of the trophy.

Sgt. Roy A. Wood, a Special Forces medical sergeant assigned to the National Guard’s Company C, 3rd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was fatally injured when the vehicle he was riding in was involved in a traffic accident near Kabul, Afghanistan, during a return convoy from Qalat to Bagram Air Base.
His first SF assignment was to the Army Reserve’s 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Meade, Md., where he served in the 3rd Battalion’s Company A as the detachment executive officer for Operational Detachment-A 1175.
At the time of his death, Wood was pending appointment as a Special Forces warrant officer, a position in which he would have served his team as an assistant detachment commander.
