He maintained his pacifism and resistance to capital punishment everywhere in the world.
After his death, two of Camus's works were published posthumously.
The first, entitled A Happy Death and published in 1970, featured a character named Mersault, as in The Stranger, but there is some debate as to the relationship between the two stories.

One of his most significant contributions was an essay collaboration with Koestler, the writer, intellectual, and founder of the League Against Capital Punishment.
The first was an earlier version of The Stranger entitled A Happy Death and was published in 1970.
In the essays Camus presented us with dualisms; happiness and sadness, dark and light, life and death, etc. He wanted us to face up to the fact that happiness is fleeting and that we will die.

We were on the road early this morning when he heard the news of The Crocodile Hunter's death on the radio and J. and I were both saddened.
The death of John is a tragedy in itself compounded by having been killed by his father, but there are many victims in this sad tale.
Icasualties has the answer for the American deaths, but there is no mention of the American wounded.

In 1938 he moved to France (his father was French, his mother was Spanish) and kept writing essays and plays, earning a reputation among literary and philosophical circles.
He was a member of the French Resistance during World War II and co-edited the left-wing journal Combat until 1948.
