Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (sometimes abbreviated as ROTJ by fans) is the sixth and final chapter (but the third to be released) in the popular Star Wars film series by George Lucas.
As several of these stories were written during the period after Return of the Jedi hit theaters and before Episode I: The Phantom Menace was made, numerous potential errors in the Expanded Universe continue to exist and several of the tales have been deemed apocryphal with regards to the continuity of the six films.
Return of the Jedi was released on DVD in September 2004.

Filmtracks: Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (John Williams)
An interesting note about Return of the Jedi is that the sound quality, despite improvements industry wide by the 1980's, has always suffered from a dull soundscape that defied those technological advances (especially notable in the cue "Into the Trap").
While the addition of material from Return of the Jedi was significant, it was not as earth-shattering as the anthology had been for The Empire Strikes Back.

Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi is the sixth and final chapter (but the third to be released) in the popular Star Wars film series by George Lucas.
The film was originally named Revenge of the Jedi until it was pointed out that revenge is contrary to the Jedi code, though many speculate that the change was always planned to throw off fans (as well as producers of counterfeit merchandise).

The very first appearance of the Return of the Jedi logo came on just about any Canadian carded ESB figure that was lying around in late 1982 and early 1983.
Kenner affixed the Return of the Jedi logo and the round action figure offer stickers on the card front, as well as the Admiral Ackbar mail-in offer details sticker on the reverse of the surplus action figures in Canada at the time.

Still, Return of the Jedi quickly became John Williams' longest and most complex score, and this Special Edition release preserves it for all to hear.
Although the somber mood returns for a while in the second cue, it's generally very jaunty, opening with a descending chromatic motif reminiscent of some of the desert music from the first score.

Here is just one small moment in "Return of Jedi," a moment you could miss if you looked away from the screen, but a moment that helps explain the special magic of the Star Wars movies.
"Return of the Jedi" is both a familiar movie and a new one.
The fact that the makers of "Jedi" are able to emerge intact from their task, having created a very special work of the imagination, is the sort of miracle that perhaps Obi-Wan would know something about.

There are parts of Jedi where it really shows that George was going this one alone, particularly the inclusion of the Ewoks (cute, furry, evil Teddy Bears of DOOM), but even with a few marketing concessions and a bold narrative, Jedi still manages to do a LOT of things right.
Han and Leia, though not as prominent in Jedi as they were in Empire, are still a joy to watch, particularly in the case of their sometimes-bumbling relationship.

Although many believe Return of the Jedi to be the weakest of the original trilogy, mostly owing to the cuddly Ewoks, I’ve always enjoyed the film’s blend of action, drama and laughs.
Return of the Jedi is similar to A New Hope in that it has received a number of more obvious alterations (unlike Empire, which had a larger number of minor alterations).
I hope you’ve enjoyed this retrospective look at Return of the Jedi, and indeed the other films in the trilogy, and that it’s opened your eyes to the scope of the changes, for better or worse.

I always thought of "Return of the Jedi" as a 4.5 film, a notch belong the previous two, but was inclined to round up because of the final fight between Luke and Vader, as well as the way that relationship plays out in the end.
Even though Return of the Jedi was released 16 years before Episode I: The Phantom Menace, George Lucas intended it to be part of a six-film cycle, very much as J.R.R. Tolkien intended each volume of his Lord of the Rings "trilogy" to be part of one single novel.

Return of the Jedi, the final installment of the series, is easily the least innovative and most hokey of the three films.
Of course, I could also make the rather obvious observation that large elements of Return of the Jedi are lifted from the original Star Wars, indicating that the creative wellspring of writers George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan had perhaps run dry.
Return of the Jedi is easily the weakest of the series, but its position as the conclusion makes it a must-see for anyone who has enjoyed its predecessors.
