  Reuben Wood - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Reuben Wood (1792 or 1793 – October 1, 1864) was a Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Ohio.
Wood was born near Middletown, Rutland County, Vermont.
While living with an uncle in Canada, he was conscripted into the Canadian Army at the outset of the War of 1812, but escaped across Lake Ontario and briefly served in the U.S. Army.

Reuben Scott Wood was the son of Reuben and Diantha Bay Wood, both long since deceased, and was born on the farm where he died, January 20, 1859, being aged 71 years, 9 months and 9 days at the time of death.
Wood was the last of a family of ten children.

A Wood county citizen, W. Way, wrote a most complete sketch of the little attempt at civil war; Perrysburg was converted into an armed camp for the would-be warriors, among whom were many of Wood county's old settlers, ready to, advance against the soldiers of Michigan.
In 1874, Wood county recorded 597 votes for and 3,163 against the New Constitution; 537 for and 2,987 against minority representation; 391 for and 3.324 against railroad aid, and 1,980 for and 1,774 against license.
The Thirty-third District was established in 1851, embracing Wood, Lucas, Putnam, Fulton, Hancock and Henry.

When Reuben Wood resigned as governor on July 13, 1853, to accept a federal diplomatic appointment, Lieutenant Governor William Medill, according to the rule of succession established by the new state constitution, became Ohio's twenty-second chief executive.
He was chosen by a greater plurality than was Reuben Wood, who was reelected governor.
On July 13, 1853, Governor Wood resigned to accept a federal appointment as a consular officer in Chile.

DYE FAMILY - Reuben Dye (Ruben Dye is the way the name usually appeared on earlier records) settled on a large land survey at or near the mouth of Burning Springs Run, several years before the organization of Wood County.
That Reuben Dye was probably from Virginia is shown by his being a slave holder, and also by the fact that the Dyes of Washington County, Ohio, were related in some way to him.
Dusoway Dye was born in 1798 and appears in the1820 Census in Wood County, West Virginia (??).

R.S. Wood, one of the most highly respected women in Wyandot county, passed into the sleep of death at her home, south of this city [Upper Sandusky, OH], at 11:45 o'clock Wednesday morning after an illness of two weeks with uremic poisoning.
Wood, whose maiden name was Leefe McClain, was the daughter of Abraham and Catherine McClain, both of whom are now deceased, and was born in Pitt township February 18, 1863, having passed her sixtyseventh birthday last February.
Wood was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Harpster [OH].

WOOD, Reuben, lawyer, born in Rutland county, Vermont, in 1792; died in Rockport, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, 2 October, 1864.
He served in the war of 1812 as captain of Vermont volunteers, and, after studying law and being admitted to the bar, began to practise in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 1849 he was elected governor by the Democrats, and he was re-elected in 1850, when the new constitution went into effect.
