Reutlingen is a very prosperous and attractive city and is an excellent place for students to live and study.
Thus today the University of Cologne is still a "city university", and that in a double sense: founded by the citizens of Cologne and with a university campus not outside of but within the city itself.
The university's popularity is no doubt due to the wide range of subjects on offer (over 120), the excellence of the research carried out in many departments, and the high quality of life in the city of Münster.

The population of the city of Reutlingen is approximately 100,000.
Reutlingen is nestled in the attractive countryside at the foot of the Swabian Alb close to the Neckar valley.

Following his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, he earned an MBA from the University of Miami in 1967, a master’s of science degree in Management in 1971 and Ph.D. of Managerial Economics in 1977 from Rensselaer Polytechnic University.
As a result, Reutlingen University awarded the school’s coveted Medal of Honor to McCarthy for his dedication and commitment in the exchange program between the two schools.
But at a meeting of the Reutlingen University’s senate Dec. 13, 2002, administrators and faculty agreed that this year’s award should go to McCarthy as a way of showing appreciation for his commitment in making sure the exchange between the two institutions is one of the best available.
