Revelation BASIC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Advanced Revelation (AREV) used a programming language called R/Basic, which is a descendant of the BASIC programming language (via the Pick operating system) that was developed by Revelation Software for use with the DOS operating systems.
Revelation came with a markedly different IDE from the one supplied with previous versions of BASIC.
Revelation's compiler could be used to compile programs into pseudo-code which would be validated and run faster than an interpreter.

I also had originally scheduled a class for packaging state (encapsulation) and interface programming (inheritance), but figured that that's something most people will probably already have exposure to, although maybe not as orthogonal subjects to each other (they are usually tought as basically the same thing).
It has been said that BASIC ruins a programmer for life - I've found the opposite to be true as well - a programmer who never experiences programming without automatic storage (the stack) and nested control structures has little concept of what they are instructing the computer to do.
Basically, even though the dispatch tables should grow exponentially, the information in them is highly redundant, and there are several techniques for either (1) building the tables in highly compressed form or (2) using fast decision trees to select methods.

Static Typing Where Possible, Dynamic Typing When Needed | Lambda the Ultimate
The run-time of these languages is inherently slower as every operation must first run a battery of tests on its operands: that the referenced variables are indeed defined, the operands of a div operation are indeed numbers, and furthermore, the divisor is not zero.
Then dynamically typed languages enjoy the same property: there are no programs that can distinguish different representations of anything on properties that are part of their specification, provided the representations have the same specification, and if both conform to their specification.
There are several other languages that exist between the first two points on the spectrum that might serve as exemplars of where static typing has been since 1975 and lauching-off points for where it could go in the future.
