The main force of Mondasian Cybermen had landed at a human research base in Antartica and their remains were closely studied by one group of Faction Cybermen, who used this study of their Mondasian cousins to improve their own engineering.
It is possible that this particular group of Cybermen had travelled back in time from later in Cyberhistory as they had access to records of the fourth Doctor's battle against some Cybermen from the 29th Century, although this could also be a memory from the seventh Doctor acquired in 2006.

The attack on the Cybermen with gold is quite well directed and edited, and Lester’s death is poignant and noble: the story’s mortality rate of 70%, while high, is totally appropriate to the story.
Revenge Of The Cybermen is a deeply silly story that is still a long way from being a true dud, possibly because Robert Holmes’s witty script-editing prevents it from being too serious for its naff moments to be forgiven, like Warriors Of The Deep.
Revenge of the Cybermen was one of the first Doctor Who stories I saw (at the tender age of three), so it always retains a special place in my heart.

Revenge of the Cybermen is, let's face it, the runt of Season 12's litter, which is interesting considering how much of it is recycled from other stories in the season in terms of sets and ideas.
Revenge of the Cybermen is by no means the greatest story ever shown and is undoubtedly pulled up quite a bit by having an old monster return but it is nevertheless a good story that holds together well and is only let down by some of the execution.
Revenge of the Cybermen is nothing but an almalgamtion of those stories and a re-run of the last story (Genesis).

The Vogans have bribed Kellman to attract the remaining Cybermen to Nerva, where they can be blasted out of existence by a Vogan missile, thus freeing the Vogans from a life in hiding.
