Sexism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sexism is commonly considered to be discrimination and/or hatred against people based on their sex rather than their individual merits, but can also refer to any and all systemic differentiations based on the sex of the individuals.
Sexism can be partitioned as consisting of sexism against the female sex, sexism against the male sex, sexism against the intersex (hermaphrodite and pseudohermaphrodite), and sexism against the transsex (transmale and transfemale).
Another source of sexism is the "old patriarchy" and "old matriarchy", which has historically restricted and limited the role of males in other parts of society and has looked down upon male homemakers.

Critics of reverse discrimination, typically in the politically and socially dominant groups, believe proponents take a situational stand where a principled stand is more appropriate, arguing that the practice replaces one form of discrimination with another.

Affirmative action - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When members of targeted groups are actively sought or preferred, the reason given is usually that this is necessary to compensate for advantages that groups such as males or those of European descent have derived from racism (including institutional racism and unconscious racism), sexism (similarly), and results of historical circumstances.
Though affirmative action in the United States is primarily associated with race and gender, the American civil rights movement originally gave as its purpose the correction of a history of oppression against all working-class and low-income people; women have figured as prominently as ethnic minorities among its beneficiaries.
This approach of equal treatment is sometimes described as being "race-blind", in hopes that it is effective against discrimination without engaging in reverse discrimination.

Faculty that are hired on the tenure track have a seven year trial period as assistant professors to prove they excel in the three areas that are criteria for receiving tenure: teaching, "collegiality" — defined loosely in the Blue Book as contributions to the community of faculty scholars — and scholarship.
The recent tenure-related lawsuits have encompassed claims of racism, sexism, reverse discrimination and personal antagonism.
Two of these disputes erupted over scholarship evaluations, including the plight of Anthony Daley, the former assistant professor of government denied tenure in 1993 and again in 1994 for because he did not meet the standards of scholarship required by the department.
