Topic: Revolutionary Girl Utena

Revolutionary Girl Utena - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The main character of Utena is an androgynous teenage female, Utena Tenjou, who was so impressed by a kind prince in her childhood that she decided to become a prince herself, and cross-dresses as a male.
Utena turns into a pink car (which is in fact a symbol for Utena being Anthy's mode of escape from her world) and they kill Akio, escaping the fantasy world of the school once and for all on the remains of the "Utena Car".
The sword with which Utena fights most of her duels is called the Sword of Dios; the audience is led to believe that Dios's essence is somehow contained within the sword, and in many of the duels his spirit is shown entering Utena's body and semi-possessing her, helping her to win.

THEM Anime Reviews 4.0 - Revolutionary Girl Utena
Revolutionary Girl Utena is a strange, strange series that seems to draw heavily from the tradition of two pioneering series, Princess Knight, and probably more importantly in this case, Ikeda Riyoko's Rose of Versailles.
Utena crossdressing and swordfighting is downright normal compared to the ritualistic and backstabbing student council members, the -err- demonstrative groupie Wakaba, and the seemingly at first milquetoast (but quite insane, thank you very much!) Anthy.
Revolutionary Girl Utena is strange, strange stuff, and though its inconsistency and odd pacing undermine an promising start (comparable to Evangelion in this case), this show is guaranteed its share of fans, as well as a few detractors.

Anthy is a very quiet girl and the apparent girlfriend of a rather popular fellow on the Student Council, but when Utena happens upon some of his most unchivalrous treatment of her, she challenges the rogue (he happens to be the captain of the school's kendo team) to a duel.
Utena sounds a little less spunky than she did originally, but turns in a good performance in general.
To reiterate, Revolutionary Girl Utena is a unique piece of anime; the story is a tale of self-discovery told through a mix of down to earth characters, mysterious forces, and grand fairy tale themes.

Utena's fellow students, though, are just as fractured psychologically as she is. Some are wracked with guilt, some are blinded by passion, some are dominated by their own lack of self-esteem, and at least one has been turned into a cow (hey, don't ask me, okay?).
Utena, at first isolated from the world and people around her by her own preoccupation with her inner torment, finds her barriers being broken down by two things.
The first is the aforementioned duels; Utena holds a strange fascination for the duellists already at the academy, and discovers during the course of them that she holds a power within her that threatens the noxious status quo of the academy, which keeps all the students walled away from each other inside their own pain.
