In the anti-Vietnam War protest movement of the 1960s, Maoist student groups played a prominent role in several countries, mainly because of their willingness to resort to violence.
Mao himself is officially regarded as a great revolutionary leader for his role in fighting the Japanese and creating the People's Republic of China, but Maoism as implemented between 1959 and 1976 is regarded by today's Communist Party of China as an economic and political disaster.
For example, the Maoist Internationalist Movement regards the white working class in the First World as a non-revolutionary "labor aristocracy", whereas the Revolutionary Communist Party (USA) claims that all but a minority of white workers in countries such as the US have revolutionary potential.

RIM is establishing itself as an international "embryonic centre" of world proletarian revolution, which exposes counter- revolutionary and anti-people character of the revisionists and opportunists and supports and helps all genuine revolutionary struggles.
RIM is also being strongly criticised and opposed from the "close quarters" for its conscious efforts to develop itself as an "embryonic center" of the Maoists, instead of being simply a forum that can carry out interactions among various forces, and forges "broad unity.
RIM has clearly defined the goal of each communist party and the RIM as a whole, the ultimate goal of communism and the immediate goal of completing the revolutions in each countries as part and parcel of the world proletarian revolution.

It is important that the revolutionary elements in both kinds of countries be educated to understand the nature of the strategic alliance between the revolutionary proletarian movement in the advanced countries and the national-democratic revolutions in the oppressed nations.
The social-chauvinist position that would deny the importance of the revolutionary struggle of the oppressed peoples or their ability, under the leadership of the proletariat and a genuine Marxist-Leninist party, to lead to the establishment of socialism is still a dangerous deviation to be combated.
The desire to spread the revolutionary movement of the 1960s to the proletariat and to merge with the workers, inspired to no small degree by the experience of the revolutionary youth in the Cultural Revolution, was a powerful and correct revolutionary sentiment which, however, became stifled and distorted under the influence of economism.

The RIM was founded based on the Declaration of the "Revolutionary Internationalist Movement," adopted by the Second Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations in 1984.
The RIM groups together the nuclei of the worldwide Maoist revolutionaries who are determined to carry forward the struggle " for a world without exploitation, oppression, imperialism, and a world in which the division of society into classes, will soon be overcome by the communist world of the future."
The international, economic, political, relations and the "division of the world" established in the aftermath of World War II, no longer corresponds to the interests of the various imperialist powers as they seek to extend and expand their profitable empires by " peaceful means." The relative stability of the main imperialist powers is crumbling.

Originally, RIM was headquartered at Russell House, Nottingham, England, and RIM's journal, A World to Win, was published for several years by Russell Press at the same address.
History: RIM was founded March 12, 1984 at a conference in London called the "Second International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations." LTTE and Sikh organizations participated in the founding conference, and maintain collaboration with RIM, though not formally affiliated.
Shining Path was integrated into RIM's European-based terrorist operations in November 1985, when two Senderista leaders, Maximiliano Durand Araujo and Hildebrando Pérez Huaranca traveled to Paris, Brussels, and Libya as part of a RIM delegation.
