		The reaction of doctors in the depressed industrial center of Rezekne in eastern Latvia has been to threaten forced tests after one of the first two HIV carriers recently discovered in the hospital refused to acknowledge his condition to medical personnel before undergoing treatment, putting doctors and nurses at risk.
		Doctors in Rezekne are angered by what they see as a hole in the law that leaves them at risk.
		AIDS activists say the reaction in Rezekne is a symptom of the paranoia concerning the disease in Latvia and nearby Estonia, where the outbreak has met the international definition of a localized epidemic.

		The Latgale Culture and History Museum was founded in 1959 and its research focuses on the history and culture of the entire Latgale region and Rezekne district.
