Rhapsody in Blue is a composition by George Gershwin which combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects.
Rhapsody in Blue was commissioned by Paul Whiteman for a 12 February 1924 concert entitled "An Experiment in Modern Music," which took place in Aeolian Hall in New York City.
It is used to this effect in Woody Allen's film Manhattan and the Disney film Fantasia 2000; in 1991 the female barbershop quartet Ambiance recorded an a cappella version of Rhapsody in Blue with lyrics describing scenes in New York life.

Rhapsody in Blue Review: This is one of those films that seems WAY longer than it actually is, and it's not exactly short to begin with.
The film is hampered by a few small points, one being that Gershwin's life doesn't readily lend itself to dramatic portrayal (until the very end, when he drops dead at a very young age, and your jaw just drops)...

In this film's world, unfortunately, the Astaires (Fred and Adele) and so many others who brought Gershwin's music into popularity, don't exist -- presumably because it would have cost WB more than it was worth to them.
Other things are misrepresented, like the placement of "Somebody Loves Me" much later in G's life (it was in fact written for George White's Scandals of 1924, I believe), presumably just because the songs were available or were the ones the producers wanted.
This makes it seem like G lived in the teens and the early 20s, since they wouldn't pay for any of his associates from the 30s -- a very lopsided picture of the composer's life and his work that does not impress.
