Das Rheingold | Myra C.J. Mondzac and Elaine Carreon-Gadi
Das Rheingold (The Rhinegold) is the tantalizing introduction to Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), known as The Ring Cycle.
Das Rheingold, meaning “the gold of the Rhine River,” is the story of the clash between gods, giants, and dwarves over a powerful and magical golden treasure.
The shortest of all the operas in the Ring Cycle, the libretto of Das Rheingold, like fairytales and myth, is entertaining, magical, filled with battles, bargains, and sorcery.

 The Originators of Rheingold Beer
New Yorkers over the age of fifty will remember the brand name Rheingold Beer and the company's brilliant publicity stunt in which a bevy of attractive young women competed annually for the privilege of being elected that year's Miss Rheingold and appearing in ads on billboards and in the subways throughout the New York area.
For thirty years, Rheingold Beer reigned supreme in the New York area, but by 1976, as a local brewery, it could no longer compete with nationwide companies such as Anheuser & Busch, Miller, and Schlitz, and its doors were closed.
An interesting coda to the story of the Liebmann and Schülein enterprises is the fate of Hermann Schülein's father and brother.

Rheingold's prediction: The answer is being formed today, and moblogging "is one of the leading indicators to watch as the shape of the new mediasphere becomes visible...

Teutonic metallers Grave Digger have long had a penchant for interpreting history and works of literature through their anthemic power metal concept albums (see 1999's Excalibur and 2001's The Grave Digger) and this time around on Rheingold, Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelungs gets the German headbangers' metal makeover.
Predictably, Grave Digger apply sonic and lyrical bombast with a trowel, rendering each of the ten tracks a gloriously heavy-handed slab of '80s-style Euro-metal.
