Das Rheingold - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Das Rheingold ("The Rhine Gold") is the first of the four operas that comprise Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), by Richard Wagner.
It received its premiere at the National Theatre in Munich on 22 September 1869, with August Kindermann in the role of Wotan, Heinrich Vogl as Loge, and Wilhelm Fischer as Alberich.
Das Rheingold begins with a 136-bar unmodulating prelude based on the chord of E flat major that is meant to represent the eternal unchanging motions of the River Rhine.

The Intervenor contends that the Regional Director's reliance on Rheingold was misplaced, because that case assumes that a substantial complement of the predecessor's employees continues in employment with the successor.
In Rheingold, the Board distinguished between situations in which the petitioning union is a stranger to the unit employees and those in which the petitioning union has previously represented those employees.
Therefore, we reaffirm the validity of Rheingold's primary holding: that demonstration by a nonstranger union of a continued substantial claim of interest in representing the unit precludes a recognition agreement from acting as a bar to a petition for certification subsequently filed by the nonstranger union.

Rheingold’s use of scare tactics is a legitimate rhetorical strategy in this case because he anticipates a strong opposition from his audience, whom he describes as naïve, enthusiastic advocates of CMC.
Rheingold views the issue of censorship as a threat to democracy and throws light on how CMC can uphold censorship by discussing the scenarios we had to encounter because of the steps taken by Prodigy, an Internet Service Provider (ISP) sponsored by IBM and Sears in the mid 80’s.
Rheingold expresses his fears of a totalitarian government that will use the Panopticon model to control the citizens in order to make the audience aware of the dangerous potentials of CMC.

However, it's one of Horner's most pleasing spin off songs in some time with a good tune (based on the main theme) and nicely arranged, certainly a vast improvement over the abomination that sullied his otherwise fine replacement effort for Troy.
The album apparently features everything Horner wrote, much of which was replaced in the film with the Overture to Wagner's Das Rheingold (which might seem an odd choice, but it's one his more sedate and low key operatic openings) and Mozart.
It's difficult to argue that there's anything particularly impressive or novel about Horner's score, but it's surprisingly enchanting, the kind of album that washes over the listener with some decent tunes and very evocative textures.
