Perissodactyla(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
The Tapiridae - the closest family to the ancestral perissodactyl condition - possess four toes on the forefeet (digit V is used on wet or marshy ground) and three on the hind.
The nasal bones in the skull are expanded posteriorly, and project freely for at least part of their length.
'Horns' are present on the midline of the nasal and/or frontal bones in all living members of the Rhinocerotidae, but these are dermal in origin and have no bony core as in the artiodactyls.

Rhinocerotidae from the Middle Miocene of the Tung-gur Formation, Inner Mongolia (China) (American Museum novitates) (American Museum novitates) by Esperanza CerdenÌo (Unknown Binding - Jan 1, 1996)
PleistoceneRhinocerotidae of W. Europe with reference to the recent two-horned species of Africa and S.E. Asia (Scripta geologica) by H Loose (Unknown Binding - 1975)
Flexed joints, manus placed directly beneath the glenoid so it is directed laterally, and feet are more medial than the hands due to slightly adverted elbows and the asymmetrical distal femoral condyles directing the crus more medially.
In all, we have limbs operating close to a parasagittal plane, with elbows slightly bent as in rhinos (Rhinocerotidae).
Photographs taken at The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, Norman, Oklahoma.
