BBC - Comedy Guide - Rhona
This is because Rhona was about a girl in London who just happened to be lesbian; it wasn't obsessed with its lead character's (and star's) sexuality but was concerned with the more traditional and universal themes of friendship, relationships and everyday life.
Cameron wrote the show (with her ex-lover Linda Gibson) and, like her standup act, drew heavily upon observational humour.
Rhona was both funny and pleasingly angst-free, and if viewers were determined to look for influences then The Mary Tyler Moore Show was more on the mark: the upbeat girl-in-the-big-city theme music, and also show's credit sequence, bore more than a passing resemblance to the great US comedy.
