Rib Mountain (also known as Rib Hill) is a glacially-eroded monadnock in central Wisconsin, located in the Town of Rib Mountain in Marathon County.
Rib Mountain is at 44° 55′ 15″ N, 89° 41′ 40″ W, near Wausau on the west side of the Wisconsin River, just west of Interstate 39 and just south of Wisconsin State Highway 29.
Although Rib Mountain is not the highest point in Wisconsin and not technically even a mountain, it is almost 4 miles long and peaks at 1924 feet above sea level and 640 feet above the local terrain, the highest difference of height from peak to surrounding terrain in the state of Wisconsin.

Rib Mountain also has three constables who are able to write littering and barking-dog citations and traffic tickets but are unable to make criminal arrests.
Marathon County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Parks, who also is a Rib Mountain resident, said the town does not have a substantial crime rate and that Sheriff's Department patrols are adequate.

Rental cabins could spring up on one of Wisconsin's oldest ski hills if a proposed land swap at Rib Mountain State Park is approved between the state and the ski hill owner.
Charles Skinner Jr., president and owner of Granite Peak Ski Area, said his 30-year lease with the state to operate the ski hill on Rib Mountain allows him to acquire 30 or 40 acres to build lodging.
For Granite Peak Ski Area, which was renamed last year from Rib Mountain Ski Area, that means offering lodging on the hill that will allow skiers and snowboarders to ski out their front door and back again at the end of the day, said Skinner.
