From Ribeira Grande you can take a picturesque coastal road tour – east via Paul to Janela lighthouse and west to the village Punta do Sol where you can find nice examples of colonial architecture and impressive, high rocky cliffs.

The Isidro priest Axe was born in Saint Bárbara in 1651 and died in 1701 in the Serreta, together to the image of the Virgin.

The image was transferred of the Twelve Ribeiras to the Serreta, the 10 of September of 1842.

Touring the island by the coast, we enjoyed many points on the rocks where it is possible to swim in the blue ocean, like in Porto Martins, Cinco Ribeiras, Doze Ribeiras and Biscoitos, being the latter a beautiful scenario of vineyards among old stone walls, covering the mountain.
In one of the greatest adventures of all, I went with some friends on a boat to Pico Island with the goal of climbing Pico, the highest point of Portugal (2351 m).

Pollution is a problem that one encounters anywhere, personally I think that this problem has been combatted with a certain amount of efficiency on the part of the local authorities.

Unfortunately "Cinco Ribeiras" is about as common a name as " Trois Riviere".
These days I use a GPS and advise that all do the same.
