		The first log house erected in the township of Alaiedon was built by Egbert W. Pattison, in the spring or summer of 1836, he having in that year purchased land on section 28.
		The first actual settler in the township -- or in the territory comprising the four townships of Alaiedon, Delhi, Lansing, and Meridian --- was James Phillips, who located on the west half of the southeast quarter of section 30 in December, 1836.

		The 1999 State Holiday Tree was harvested and erected in front of the State Capitol this week by the by the Department of Management and Budget and the Michigan Timbermen's Association and decorated for the annual lighting ceremony on Friday, November 19, during “Silver Bells in the City".
		This year’s holiday tree is not only visually impressive but also brings a rich history with it.
		The 58-foot White Spruce, donated by Michigan Technological University (MTU), was originally planted as a part of a model sawmill community project that was conceived and built by Henry Ford in 1934, in Alberta, MI.
