It was Bancroft whom King James appointed supervisor of the translation project that has come to be called the King James Version of the Bible, first published in 1611.
He was a graduate of Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) in 1921 and served as an assistant instructor at Concordia Teachers College (River Forest, Illinois) from 1921 to 1923, as a pastor in Townsend, Suring, Breed and Pine Stump, Wisconsin (1923-25), and as a professor at River Forest beginning in 1925.

It would be one of his final acts; Bancroft died on November 2, 1610, and never lived to see the translation over which he had held so much sway [by order of the king].
Bancroft was made the archbishop of Canterbury for his efforts in channeling the translation efforts of the king's new Bible, but died shortly thereafter.
