Richard Bellingham (1592 - December 7 1672) was a colonial magistrate laywer and governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Richard Bellingham was probably born in Boston England the son of William Bellingham and Amcotts.
In 1641 Bellingham was involved in a small for officiating at his own second marriage and in 1665 he ignored a summons by Charles II to return to England.

In 1631, the first ferry in the state and possibly the country, was granted permission to run from the Maverick farm to Charlestown and Boston.
Massachusetts Bellingham was appointed Deputy Governor of Massachusets in 1635, the same year he purchased Winnisimmet.
This was the largest of his farms and it was here that Bellingham built his hunting lodge in 1659, the first and original part of the Bellingham Cary House that we know today.

It’s proximity to Breed’s Hill during the Siege of Boston was a plus for General George Washington and militiamen used the house for sanctuary.
In 1650 the property was divided into four farms but the Bellinghams kept 365 acres which were passed on to Margaret Graves (a step-daughter to Bellingham) in1702.

George Richards, editor of the Sydney Morning Herald's popular Column 8, has for years fought the misuse of apostrophes, through a fictitious, nitpicking character he calls Apostrophe Man. In a classic case of Life copying Art, a retired copy editor and reporter in the English town of Boston has formed an Apostrophe Protection Society.
If John Richards extends his campaign to the Internet, he'll find myriads of misplaced and wrongly used apostrophes, even in his home town's websites.
They included leading men such as John Cotton, the town's Vicar, Alderman Leverett, Thomas Dudley and Simon Bradstreet who were steward of the Earl of Lincoln and Richard Bellingham who was Recorder and MP for the town.
