Carrion Colony; Mrs Cook - smh.com.au
Carrion Colony follows after an interval of seven years, and his publishers suggest it has a Carey-esque touch.
Adding up all its ingredients, Carrion Colony becomes an absurdist fable, set, presumably, in the second decade of the 19th century, as there is a reference to Napoleon's Russian campaign.
Carrion Colony is a wild, eccentric and at times self-indulgent book but it is also a brilliant one, and often very funny, with a richness and inventiveness of language we have not seen for a long time.

Say “Carrion” or “Banco Popular” and most people think “Puerto Rico.” But since 1961, when Popular, Inc., followed Puerto Rican migration to New York and opened its first branch in the Bronx, the people’s bank—under the leadership of the Carrion family since 1893—has gained increased market share on the mainland.
“We really are a community bank,” says Richard L. Carrion, chairman and CEO of Popular, Inc., which boasts assets of $39.6 billion and is on course to have more assets outside Puerto Rico than on the island within 10 years.
But Carrion, a self-described “intellectual bohemian” with degrees from both The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and MIT, has his eye on a wider horizon.
