Paul Gravett: Article - Richard Corben
The surprise comeback of Richard Corben over the past few years, drawing for DC and Marvel comic books of all places, has introduced his inimitable comic art to a whole new readership, many of whom were not even born when he started out on his career over thirty years ago.
Corben's plotting may be erratic and prone to charges of sexism and cliché, but his total conviction and self-absorption in imagining this sensual dreamscape captivate and transport us there.
Corben's resurgence began in 2000 at DC with a Batman one-off, and Vertigo genre shorts scripted by long-time collaborator Simon Revelstroke.

Corben's issue of Solo reads like a cross between classic EC Comics and an issue of Heavy Metal, with more than a little European flavor blending with the lurid sensibilities of American pulp.
This type of thing, as it turns out, is what Corben does best, as his work has a visceral quality to it that is perfect for capturing the uglier side of man's nature.
This story also allows Corben to really show off his stuff, with the debauchery inside the castle contrasting with the twisted chaos going on outside and a nice parade of barbarian armies to boot.

COMICON.com: RICHARD CORBEN HORROR & BIGFOOT
Corben's very comfortable in the horror genre, having cut his professional teeth working with Warren and underground fanzines.
Although he loves the horror genre, Corben was quick to point out how he defines "horror." "It's not that extreme gory violence that usually represents horror," Corben said.
Corben initially thought he'd have more time to utilize models and other tools for the sequential art, but Bigfoot was bumped up on the release schedule.

His dialogue is "street" without going overboard, and all his characters have their own secret agendas, which will inevitably be revealed through many a twist and double-cross.
