  1984-1992 Truth Quark History
Gary Goldstein, one of Dalitz's collaborators, says he is 'quite confident' that they have discovered the existence and the mass of the quark.
Dalitz and Goldstein were given details of all the collisions by Kris Sliwa, a member of the CDF team..." "...
In contrast to the possessive-restrictive attitude of Fermilab-CDF, the WMAP team in 2003 released its basic cosmic microwave data promptly to the public, resulting in outside alternative analyses of the data that showed interesting aspects that were not clearly shown by the in-house consensus analysis.

Dalitz has made seminal contributions to the phenomenology of elementary particle physics.
His work on K-meson decays to pions led directly to the discovery of parity non-conservation; the Dalitz plot is indispensable in the analysis of experiments; and electromagnetic Dalitz decays are ubiquitous.
Research Interests: Quarks and their interaction processes, quantum chromodynamics, and interactions of hyperons with nuclei are my primary areas of focus.

CERN Courier - From 'tau' to 'top' - the ma - IOP Publishing - article
Richard (Dick) Dalitz has spent more than 50 years in the study of elementary particles, the quark model and quantum chromodynamics.
I did my work then [in 1951] on the neutral pion decay, to a photon and an electron-positron pair [the "Dalitz pair"], before moving on to the tau-meson decay, for which I devised a convenient representation, the so-called "Dalitz plot".
The Dalitz plot is a kind of map, summarizing all of the possible final configurations, each dot representing one event.

He is linked, by way of {\sc Richard H. Dalitz} [\cite{daldys}], with the German-American physicist {\sc Hans A. Bethe} [\cite{dalbet}], one of the main figures in the development of twentieth century quantum and atomic physics.
It was {\sc Gamow} who coined the expression ``big-bang"; the modern version of this theory, as modified by him and his collaborators, is the leading postulate of cosmology.
From {\sc Dalitz} we find a path to another Nobel physicist, American {\sc Robert Hofstadter}, a co-recipient of the 1961 prize for his investigations of protons and neutrons.

After graduating from St Andrews, he had planned to go to Cambridge to take his doctorate, but that fell through when the scholarship he had been counting on - available to children or grandchildren of Scotsmen - went pear-shaped when he discovered that despite the family folklore his grandfather had been born in Lincoln.
In fact, Dalitz was just about the only person in the UK working on quarks and Close remembers feeling rather depressed and lonely for much of his doctorate.
After completing his thesis, Close went to Stanford University - the epicentre of quark research - and, as quark theory went mainstream, found himself at the forefront of a new strand of physics.

AAS Biographical Memoirs - John Mahoney 1929-1992
They moved frequently but their children Patricia Helen and Richard John (born 1968) made greater stability of location essential.
Many years later, John would blame his indifferent interest and performance as a student on the narrowness of the courses, but the fact remains that he, with twelve or so others who were undergraduates in the 1940s, later occupied chairs at universities in Australia and abroad without any further undergraduate training.
At this stage Richard Meyer, who had developed a much improved approach to handle such problems, took over John's supervision.
