Prosecutor Profile - Richard A. Devine
Ironically, it was the end, last year, of a grueling, frustrating and emotionally draining procedure that he deplored: the beyond-the-call-of-duty performance of his staff in preparing for and participating in the unprecedented clemency hearings.
Typical of the admiration and loyalty that Devine seems to attract, one of his friends, the late Gene Sullivan, Devine’s campaign coordinator and his basketball coach at Loyola Academy, once said that Devine “is perhaps the finest person I have ever come across, and should be president of the United States.”
Devine kept his campaign promise to try cases by deciding to lead the prosecution team in a murder case that was not particularly high profile, but which Devine says, “had meaning,” exemplifying his desire to improve the quality of life in Chicago and reflecting his strong feelings for victims.

Somehow or other, Richard's small appearance on a small record (on a small record label) made it's way from a small section in a small store to a big desk somewhere in Hollywood.

Devine's new compounds of sound are open to explore with the ear, and his subliminal music freely accompanies and frequently saturates the remaining spaces.

 RICHARD DEVINE
Devine brought the visual and musical worlds together by using applications such as Algorithmic Arts Softstep Pro, U&I Software Metasynth, Cycling '74 Max/MSP, Composers' Desktop Project and MRAC Symbolic Composer to compute the musical values of skeletal structures, which he then interwove into his compositions.
As for digital signal processing and recording, Devine's studio is a gear whore's Xanadu, with a Yamaha O2R 96; a 32-channel Mackie board; a host of Eventide processors (the Orville is his favorite); five custom analog synths (built by a friend); and items from MOTU, Focusrite, TC Electronic, Akai, Clavia and Kurzweil.
And given that Devine often incorporates as many as 1,500 sounds in one track, that effectual addition to his studio is no doubt a keeper.

EQ Magazine - Success Story: Richard Devine
A classically trained musician since his early childhood, Devine drew inspiration from composers such as Chopin and Kabalevsky, marrying the complexity of their arrangements with the DIY ethos of acts like My Bloody Valentine and the harsh, electronically generated textures of Coil, SPK, and Brian Lustmord.
Taking into consideration Devine’s intent to approach the listener from multiple angles, it’s no surprise that he’s delved quite deeply into the realm of mixing in 5.1 surround — a tactic he’s employed lately when collaborating with BT on the soundtrack for director Adam Rifkin’s new film Surveillance.
But Devine’s insistence on manipulating paths of trajectory in the mix is but a mere nod towards his non-traditional approach to gathering sound sources, many of which are “found” as opposed to played, for compositional purpose, a tactic oftentimes used by one of Devine’s biggest influences: Aleatoric composer John Cage.

Splendid Magazine reviews Richard Devine: Aleamapper
IDM is quickly becoming the emo of the electronic scene; the genre that people seemingly couldn't get enough of a year ago has rapidly fallen from grace with beat-heads and blip-hoppers alike.
Less than a year ago, young Richard Devine was the toast of IDM-dom, the newcomer who had both the skills and the creativity to bring the then-burgeoning genre into mainstream consciousness.
His debut mini-album, Lipswitch, won him such critical acclaim here and across the Atlantic that, in many circles, he was regarded in the same high esteem as such pioneering stalwarts as Aphex Twin and Squarepusher.
