Richard D. Ellis received such educational training as could be had in the township schools and was reared on his father's farm on which he lived until he reached the age of 23 years.
Ellis was married to Martha Chestnutt, a daughter of Thomas Chestnutt, of Shawnee township.

Born in Redondo Beach California in 1978 with a genetic condition that resembles albinoism, he was often considered the "odd-man-out', having to control the syndrome by the constant wearing of protective eye glasses that shielded him from the harsh rays of the Californian sun.
Ellis is more concerned with creating beautiful paintings that work visually as well as  producing an emotive response with in the viewer.
Ellis also rejects the artstist-as-celebrity and the drugged up, misfit artist, that was so apparent in the eighties.

Richard Ellis, planter, jurist, and legislator, son of Ambrose and Cecilia (Stokes) Ellis, was born in the "Tidewater Section" (probably Lunenburg County) of Virginia, on February 14, 1781.
Ellis made his first trip to Texas in 1826 not as a colonist but in a futile effort to collect a debt from a Colonel Pettus.
A son, Nathaniel Dandridge Ellis, also settled in Old Red River County and was granted a league and labor of land as the head of a household.

Richard Hastings Ellis, 69, a retired Air Force general and commander of the Strategic Air Command from 1977 to 1981, died of cancer March 28, 1989 at Malcolm Grow Hospital at Andrews Air Force Base.
General Ellis retired from the Air Force after his service as chief of the Strategic Air Command, and the following year was appointed US representative to the Standing Consultative Commission, a US-Soviet body established in 1972 that meets twice yearly to discuss problems arising out of arms control agreements between the two countries.
In 1958 General Ellis was assigned to the directorate of plans at Air Force headquarters in Washington, then in 1961 became executive to the Air Force chief of staff.

Ellis notes that the chicken industry is the largest industrial user of meal made from menhaden, an Atlantic coastal fish that is also used to produce cooking and food-processing oils.
